Orc House

Written by Salen

The orcs live in houses that closely resemble the huts of old, yet with far more comforts for todays society. The houses themselves come in all different shapes and sizes.

The Single

Also known as the Loner, this dwelling is meant for one to two orcs (usually an orc and their mate) and has one bedroom along with a study and kitchen. Storage is dug out beneath the house typically and these homes are the easiest ones to build with stone.

The Twin Tusks

This house is a bit larger and is meant for an orc family just starting out. It has two bedrooms as well as a guest room, study, kitchen, and living room. A loft is usually built upstairs for some storage as well as a dugout basement under the house. These are typically made with wood not stone, but are reinforced with iron beams.

The Clan

This model is typically reserved for wealthy families and Lords. It houses up to seven orcs and has three floors. These buildings are always made out of wood and treated against the rain and snow. The dug out basement is lined with iron beams and filled in with stone walls to keep it cool in the hot days, and the floors above have gear driven fans to circulate the air.

Purpose / Function

As in any other dwelling, the orc house protects the inhabitants from the elements, and shelters them. Here they raise families, tend to their farms, and cook their meals.

Alterations

Over time the orc houses have gone through some changes as things become outdated and improved. Most notably is the addition of some of the larger clockwork machines that the orcs can finally start using. Some of these include Gearshades for their windows to keep out the bright sun, and Gearlocks to secure their doors.

History

The history of the Orc House is quite simple. before Starfall, the orcs were considered a lesser race to the elves, dwarves, and even humans. They were technically treated as equals, yet they fell behind with the advances of technology because of their large hands. Unable to use most of the newer devices being invented and improved, their dwellings were simple and almost barbaric to the growing towers of the other races. With the devastation wrought by the falling stars, everything was thrown back to the desperation of nomadic struggle. From there, as the orcs climbed back up, enslaving the others and improving their own stations, their homes started becomming more functional and up to date.

Other Models

While these aren't the only houses to exist in the Shards, they are the most common. Wealthy lords, warlords and priests of the gods live in much larger and lavish buildings. Merchants and company owners have huge facilities that they keep and even the ship captains can afford designer homes.

Really nice use of images on this one, it helps portray the houses very well. A nice read.   I assume by the size, orc families stays rather small ? Do they make some for religious purpose or is it more open-air ?   Happy Summercamp ! :)

relatively small. At most they will have up to three children and when the kids get old enough they usually move to the big cities to attend brutality school and weapons training. The citadels and churches are enclosed as well.
