The Bardic College

Written by Salen

This large college sits on the eastern side of Everloom, near the main gate. It was built in 52 SR as a place to train the first bards learning the craft. The young men and women that started showing up around that time looked for guidance and stories that they could spread, and it was an idea that this place could house the gathered knowledge that bards could attain in their travels to teach future generations

The Bardic College has about fifty students a year and of those, only twenty or so actually pass the tests and become full bards. Here they learn the stories and songs of the land, committing them to memory and adding their own flavor to them. This is the essence of the bard, giving the stories your own unique twist while keeping it true to history.

Purpose / Function

The Bardic College trains those people who have answered the call of the bard. They train those that wish to be trained in instruments, songs, reading and writing music, survival in the wilderness, and even some martial training.

Architecture

The building is beautifully crafted and is probably the most aesthetic looking site in all of Everloom, including the castle. Blue wood arches and large windows adorn this simple but beautiful house, and the gardens outback stretch away into a gorgeous hedge maze that inspires and relaxes.

History

In the beginning the college was small, only being able to hold ten or so young students in its fairly small rooms. As the years went by and more and more students came to learn it expanded. Today it has a dormitory attached to the main building that houses over fifty students and rooms for ten full time teachers. While still not as impressive as Mystvale in size or student number, the Bardic College is more personal with classes having only 5 - 8 bards in training at a time.

Qualifications

Bards in Eather'an are fairly common, though outside of Tamia they do not receive much in the way of quality, focused training. In Tamia however, Bardic Trainees are selected on the basis of whether they can utilize two of the three categories that are pertinent to Bards:

  • Creativity (ability to compose or create new music, poems, etc..)
  • Musicality or Oratory (ability to perform for an audience weather singing, speaking, or playing)
  • The Gift (ability to enhance either of the former so as to bring the audience into the piece)

In Tamia, anyone who possesses at least two of these can enroll in the Bardic College at Everloom to become a bard. If they possess all three, they can do this at no cost to the student or family.
