The Nation of Toth

The nation of Toth is one of the most stable nations in the Shards. Originally made up of three islands, they conceded the ownership of the island of Vranx to the nation of Kair recently. The nation of Toth is the most warlike of all the nations and is home to the largest population of Half-orcs in all of the Shards. It's Orcish Stone Ship navy is the second only to Kair, and only by one ship at the moment.  

People

The people of Toth are split evenly between Gralen orcs and Grenlen orcs, with a healthy mix of half-orc as well. Slaves make up for almost one third of the entire population of the nation, and the outlying farms bring in a ton of exported foods that can;t grow in the harsh northern climates. Mining is also good here, as the mountains yield the precious Blackstone used in the building of the stone ships.

Structure

The nation is ruled by a Warlord. This warlord is chosen by a family line, but can be challenged by any orc in combat. The Toth family line has held the seat of warlord since it's formation (eighteen generations now) and has survived countless challengers.

History

The history of Toth, as a nation, dates back to the event that devastated the world. Starfall shattered the lands and created the Shards, splintering the land into islands. The nation of Toth started on the island of Faergth as a bastion of defense and protection. In time, with the Slavery of the lesser Races., the nation started expanding and took over the island of Irktusk to the north. The capital city, Thiar, City of Strength. was reinforced and other city's started to branch out all over both islands. By SF 18, this nation was solidified with the aquisition of the island of Vranx. Sadly they lost this island to the warlord Kair just a few years ago, but the nation is still strong.

Territories

The Nation of Toth is composed of two large islands. Irktusk and Faergth. These islands are to the west and Northwest of the Shards and are the most populated of the islands that make up this strange island land.

Technological Level

The technological level of the nation (and indeed the whole of the Shards) is close to gearworks. They have some forms of clockwrok technology, yet nothing so far as cars or even aircraft. Because of their large hands and fingers, orcs cannot manipulate some of the smaller levers and triggers on a lot of the clock/gear work devices.

Religion

The different nations of the Shards each worship one of the three orc gods (Primal Forces). The Nation of Toth worships the god Wend. He represents strength and combat and the orcs of Toth are some of the fiercest warriors in the Shards. His citadel on the island of Irktusk is a huge domed city with the largest warrior school in all of the Shards. Orcs from all over come here to train in the ways of combat and earn degree's in violence and brutality.

Education

The orcs of Toth are educated in schools and even have colleges surrounding the capitol city. Orcs can aspire to be engineers, surgeons (still called shamans believe it or not) shipwrights/carpenters, or take the fine arts of painting, writing, and/or cooking.  
An uneducated orc is intolerable, and probably from Gromsh - Kargran, headmaster of the school for higher learning

Infrastructure

The orc engineers have come far in the centuries since the Slavery of the lesser Races., designing Aquaducts, underground sewage takeaway systems, cobblestone roads, extensive brisges and towers and even stone warships.

Victory or Death!

 

Castle Kartusk

Located in the capital, Thiar, City of Strength., this massive castle is home to the Kartusk family and most of the conclave of lords. Sitting high above the sea, with a great view of the naval harbor, this stone castle has stood for centuries. It also holds the personal areana of the warlord, where all challenges take place.

The nation of Toth, along with all of the Shards, uses the Cylinder as a unit of monetary trade. These gold shards are used to buy and sell, and have two distinct types. a iron/gold mix, and a pure gold.
Legislative Body
The warlord has his own conclave of lords that design, formulate, and put into circulation, the laws that govern the nation. he personally goes over each one with final say wether it goes by him or not. Some members have tried to get things by him before and they were promptly replaced due to health concerns (often broken bones).
