Session 42: The Trading Post

General Summary

The Journey Continues

  • The boys finally caught up to the bullywugs and giant toads that had captured Glorker. Glorker was alive, but his armor was singed in places where acid had begun to eat through it. The Crew questioned him about what he had "not stolen", which he said was a shiny brick from the Hair King's quarters. Showing it to the Crew, it was identified to be a rectangular brick made of wardstone, a rare material from Thelanis specifically used to protect its contents from divination and physical attacks.
  • They had a brief discussion about N'nchyk's headfirst dive into the water, as he had obviously never done such a thing before. N'nchyk didn't seem to think anything about it was strange, even when reminded about how he had stuck his head in Philip's fireplace after being splashed with a glass of water.
  • While the body of water that the bullywugs and giant toads were following was a straightforward trek onwards, the party decided it would be best to just retrace their steps and continue along the path.
  • As they went on, Dooturr received another letter regarding the Pride of the Mist. Philip received a message, which said there was a parchment incoming for N'nchyk from his friend at the university.
  • Professor Burnkles told N'nchyk that he had consulted with his colleagues at the Korranberg Library, and they had said that there was no evidence suggesting that magic used to communicate across planes would be hindered by Xoriat in any way. That said, not much is known about the Plane of Madness, and the magic required to communicate as such is extremely powerful. N'nchyk asked him how he had communicated with his colleagues, and the Professor said he had an office at the Library, and was able to speak as if he was there.

Ruins of the Trade Post

  • As the day wound down, N'cnhyk began using his survival skills to find a place to camp for the night. He managed to locate two potential locations: a ridge overlooking some of the swampy terrain and the stony ruins of some construction. The ruins seemed more interesting, so the party went there.
  • Sifting through the ruins yielded many interesting things. Ashpin discovered a ledger of some of the ruins' transactions, which appeared to have been some sort of trade post that dealt in highly dangerous and illicit goods. The basement of the ruins seemed to have been some sort of storage space, both for goods and people.
  • Dooturr found a jacket with a faded emblem, which turned out to be the symbol of House Tharashk. Philip said some others in his house used their gifts for ill will, including having close relations with Droaam.
  • As the party set up camp for the night, Lumen caught a glimpse of some shapes moving in the watery terrain outside their camp. They were attempting an ambush, but Lumen was too quick for them.
  • The assault consisted of more bullywugs, a disgusting frog-like creature, and flying hound-like creatures. The fight was long, but decisive; the Crew was more than a match. Some of the bullywugs attempted to flee, but were quickly hunted by Bigibus, hovering Maleakos, and long-range Lumen arrows.
  • That night, Ashpin could not sleep. He was haunted in the same way Maleakos was, and his life force was drained accordingly.
