Called Shots

In 5e there are no called shots. I just went with it on our first session because I didn't want to derail or get bogged down. Since I have done some research and while there are some decent systems that have been invented, I just personally don't feel they are worth the overhead (not to mention that once badguys start using them I can't see how you will survive very long). So, going forward: No Called Shots.   In any given round, you can:
  • Move
  • Take one action
  •   Additionally, you may be able to:
  • Take one bonus action (different abilities and spells will say "take as Bonus Action")
  • Take one reaction (usually this will be an attack of oppertunity, but some other abilities are reactions)
  •   For "Take One Action", the following are possible combat round actions:
  • Attack, duh
  • Cast a spell, most spells have "Action" as their casting time
  • Dash, move in addition to your movement for this round
  • Disengage, your movement for this round doesn't provoke an attack of oppertunity
  • Dodge, any attack roll made against you has DIS if you can see the attacker, and ADV on Dex saves
  • Help, assist an ally with a skill check, they get ADV or assist them on an attack against someone within 5' of you, they get ADV
  • Use a Skill, Intimidate, Stealth, Perception, etc.
  • Ready, this was 'hold action' in previous edistions: "I want to ready and attack the goblin as soon as he gets close enough
  • Use an Object, drink a potion, use a wand, open a door, lift a gate, etc.
  • Squirrels

You can talk squirrel, but you cannot get squirrels to do non-squirrel things without a pretty damn good animal handling check - but I will give you ADV on these rolls because you chose squirrel as an actual language, so I will give you a benefit. That being said, you can't just automatically tell a wild squirrel "cause a distraction" - its little squirrel brain doesn't know what that is. But you can try to "climb up that man" with an successful Animal Handling skill check.   This does not apply to your squirrels. I am assuming that they are highly trained. You can get them to do stuff without a roll. But again, you will have to put it in terms that a little squirrel brain can understand. Addtionally, "attack that ogre" is so contrary to what a squirrel does natuarally that something like this you would need an Animal Handling check.   To summarise: to get a wild squirrel to do anything, you need to make a Animal Handling check at ADV. To get your squirrels to do someting completely unnatural to a squirrel, you need to make an Animal Handling check (not at ADV).
