Adriana d'Orien
Born to a prominent House Orien family in Fairhaven, Adriana was always going to join the family business. When she manifested the Mark of Passage at age 13, Adriana was quickly enrolled into the school at House Orien's Guild of Transportation where she started to learn the ways of the lightning rail.
Adriana's life path seemed set in stone until one fateful day when her family brought her along for some negotiations with House Cannith. At 17 years of age, she wasn't considered old enough to properly participate in the meetings, being left to cool her heels in the expansive grounds around the manor house. It was there that she met Felix d'Cannith, a young man who was also excluded from the important proceedings. While it wasn't quite love at first sight, the pair quickly grew fond of each other and started a secret romance, both scared (and slightly excited) about the forbidden nature of their relationship. It probably would've ended there, but shortly after Adriana returned home, Felix was posted to Fairhaven and the relationship resumed.
Over the next few years, the couple settled into a routine of stolen moments and secret getaways, knowing that they could never formalise their relationship. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than being apart. Then the Mourning happened. All of a sudden, Felix was focused on providing for his recently widowed mother. Adriana tried her best to help, but she was reaching the point where she was going to be offered her own Lightning Train.
One day, Felix just up and vanished, leaving a letter saying that he was looking to make more money in Sharn. Devastated, Adriana focused on her work, and was shortly running trains on more and more routes. This eventually led her to bump into Felix again. He had joined an adventuring party and was heading to the frontier. Adriana tried to convince Felix to return to Fairhaven with her, worried that he wasn't cut out for the adventuring life. With her new position, Adriana could help out with the money problems. After one last night together, Adriana gave Felix an ultimatum, adventuring or her. Felix chose adventuring, convinced that he could return to her later. Adriana walked away.
However, it seemed that Felix would continue to influence her life. Nine months after their last meeting, Adriana gave birth to a little girl - Alannah. Soon she was summoned to a meeting with her superior at House Orien - it seemed that her relationship with Felix hadn't been as secret as they both thought, and now that Adriana had birthed a daughter that might manifest an aberrant dragonmark, she faced excommunication from the House. Lucklily for Adriana, her superiors were quite fond of her, and agreed to brush things under the rug, as long as she stepped down from her current (very public) role. With little choice in the matter, Adriana agreed.
When she arrived home, she found Tarlana, Felix's mother waiting for her. It seemed that Tarlana and her husband had been aware of her relationship with Felix, but agreed not to mention it. Now that she had a granddaughter, Tarlana had decided to change that. Tarlana understood why Adriana had broken off communication with Felix, but still wanted to be involved with Alannah's life. She agreed to keep the secret until Adriana decided the time was right. Adriana wasn't sure about the situation at first, but quickly grew to appreciate the help in taking care of the baby.
After a few months, Tarlana told Adriana that Felix had asked her to move to Corvo Montagna where he had made a new home. Adriana decided that now was the time to tell Felix about his daughter. Maybe Alannah would convince him to give up the adventuring life. Adriana applied to run the new Lightning Rail station in Corvo, and the House quickly agreed to send her to the remote outpost.
Soon, she and Tarlana found themselves on the train that Adriana used to command, on their way to a new life...
