Mror Holds
The rugged mountains of the Mror Holds are the ancestral home of all dwarves native to Khorvaire. For millennia, the dwarves of the Holds have built and expanded their vast cities within the mountains’ heart, and have dug ever deeper in search of wealth. The Ironroot Mountains contain Khorvaire’s largest deposits of precious metals, and the Mror dwarves consider these riches to be their ancient birthright.
Structure
The Mror Holds is not a single nation but a confederation of dwarven clans. Galifar conquered the Mror Holds nearly a thousand years ago, a victory partly due to the clans’ ceaseless internecine wars, and the dwarves declared their independence during the Last War. The clans still compete and engage in feuds, but these conflicts now take the form of political machinations and economic struggles, rather than open war.
The Iron Council, a body consisting of representatives of every clan except House Kundarak (which remains neutral), governs the Mror Holds. The council’s primary purpose is to mediate disputes and make decisions that affect all clans equally. Other than these issues, however, the clans govern themselves, making alliances with outside nations, selling the finest ores available on Khorvaire, and (through House Kundarak) providing banking services.
History
For thousands of years, blood ran like water through the cracks and crevices of the Ironroot Mountains. When the barbaric dwarves weren’t killing one another, they struggled against the Jhorash’tar orcs and other vicious creatures that lurked in the depths of the great mountains. Then, in the early days of the kingdom of Galifar, the great king gave his son Karrn the lands east of Scions Sound to govern and tame. A united dwarf nation might have resisted the Galifar expansion, but the feuding clans were too weak to challenge Karrn and his forces.
The dwarves reluctantly acquiesced and became subjects of Karrnath, one of the Five Nations of Galifar. The clans ceased fighting among themselves and slowly began to build a civilization.Along the way they made a remarkable discovery: ruins of an ancient dwarven empire. This forgotten realm was destroyed by the daelkyr and its vast halls are held by aberrations and other dark things. Nonetheless, these ruins are another source of pride for the Mror. With a vast fortune of mineral wealth and the discovery of the Mark of Warding among one of the dwarf clans, the clans became an economic force within the kingdom. They’re heirs of a mighty empire that may one day rise again.
Religion
The Sovereign Host is the dominant faith of the Mror Holds. Kol Korran, the Lord of World and Wealth, is the most beloved of the Sovereigns, but Onatar, Olladra, Boldrei, and Dol Dorn are also revered.
