Xen'Drik

South of Khorvaire, beyond the Thunder Sea, Xen’drik rises from the waves, beckoning to sage and explorer, merchant and adventurer. Deep in jungles thick with foul creatures, the ivy-covered cyclopean ruins from the empire of giants still stand, their great secrets waiting to be revealed and their fabulous magical treasures waiting to be unearthed. Vast deserts stretch out like cupped hands to catch the dragon shards that fall to Eberron from the Ring of Siberys, and great mountains hide winding tunnels and vast chasms that shelter the tribes of the scorpion-worshiping drow.   Space and time are unreliable in Xen’drik. But it is a land that holds untold treasures, and the richest source of rare Siberys dragonshards. In addition to savage giants, Xen’drik is home to the enigmatic drow and many other races and creatures never seen in Khorvaire.   The port city of Stormreach serves as the gateway to Xen’drik. It’s proven difficult to maintain colonies within Xen’drik, though the end of the Last War has created a new interest in exploration. Also the increased need of magic failing and the relative abundance of dragonshards in Xen'drik have lead to a 'Shardrush' in recent years.

History

Storm Council cover
In the distant past, Xen’drik was home to the civilizations of the giants. Now it is a place of mysteries and ruins. The civilisation of the giants was destroyed, though scholars and historians debate over what was the cause of the destruction; some say a war with the dragons, others a mighty civil war, a planar invasion or something totally unknown.

Geography

The north of Xen'Drik is full of tropical jungles, as you move south you find deserts, plains, savannas, mountains and badlands. Xen'Drik is a truly giant continent with almost every biome contained within.

The Traveller's Curse

The Traveler's Curse alters Xen'drik temporally and spatially. If two parties of explorers set out for the same destination along an identical path, one group might make the trip in two days, while another spends nearly a week to cover the same ground. Explorers might search in vain for a well-documented and commonly visited site, and another group might discover previously unknown ruins a day’s walk from Stormreach. No one knows what causes the curse. Interesting, it has less effect on natives to Xen'drik, like drow and giants.

Fauna & Flora

Xen’drik is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including plants and animals found nowhere else in Eberron. All the varieties of giants are common here, including some not found in Khorvaire. However, these barbaric tribes are mere shadows of the giants that once ruled this land.   The drow are Xen’drik’s most notable humanoid race. Unlike their elf cousins, these former slaves lingered in Xen’drik after their giant masters were struck down. The drow build vast underground cities, but are more commonly encountered as they travel the jungles in hunting parties that kill Khorvairians on sight.   The waters around Shargon’s Teeth are home to Sahuagin clans that make sorties against ships running between Stormreach and Khorvaire.

Natural Resources

Xen'Drik is rich in many natural resources, but most notably is dragonshards. Being directly below the Ring of Siberys, this is where most Siberys dragonshards make landfall; the land is richer in Eberron dragonshards than anywhere else yet discovered on the planet and has more accesses to Kyber than anywhere else.
