Gurunda
Arising from the swamps and lakes of the Eldeen Reaches is a tribe of frog like men called the Gurunda. For centuries Lizard Folk hunted and ate the Gurunda, there numbers never really getting very high. Ever since Amery Vraath set upon destroying the Lizard Folk in Eldeen Reaches the Gurunda's numbers have been plentiful. They have formed themselves into a primitive clan and have learned to speak broken common from all the traders on the Dawn Way.
Sellyria Starsinger (tribe’s leader), Gobble (Druid) - Fat frog, has led the Gurunda frogs for nearly two hundred years and still remembers their fight with the lizardfolk. Gobble’s wife died long ago, slain by a lizardfolk barbarian. He has two sons, both leaders of other nearby ncampments. Although now fat, Gobble commands deep respect from her people.
Trellara Nightshadow (tribe’s historian), High Ribiter Stumbles (Bard)- frog with glasses. Normally an energetic, bright-eyed frog always ready to break into song at a moment’s notice, High Ribiter Stumbles takes the death of his brother quite hard. Lanky was his only surviving family. With him gone, a part of his joy in life vanishes as well. Vowing to avenge his brother’s death, she approaches the PCs with an offer to become a member of their group. (She would be an excellent prospect to become the cohort of a PC with the Leadership feat, especially if that character is looking for a cohort who can offer healing and combat support.)
Killiar Arrowswift (leader of tribe’s hunters), Fly Catcher Slippy (Hunter/Scout) - stealth hunter- Always something of a loner, the Fly hunter of the gurunda hunters relishes his off duty time and often spends it simply riding in the swamp on the back of his trusted Salamander. He is rarely home as a result, often only to rest. Slippy makes an excellent guide and NPC ally for PCs traveling anywhere within the Eldeen Reaches, assuming they can impress him with their sincerity, determination, and prowess.
Illian Snowmantle (tribe’s high priest). Bubbles (priest)- ribbits alot- Absent when the PCs arrive, Bubbles returns from ministering to a distant encampment just before dawn on the day after Lankyr’s funeral ceremony. As Starsong Hill’s only cleric, Bubbles has his hands full tending to the sick and wounded of the various Gurunda camps. All the acolytes he trains are quickly sent to other encampments throughout the Eldeen Reaches, since their skills are needed in camps that are more prone to attacks. The first time the PCs interact with Bubbles, his attitude toward them is indifferent; be sure to roleplay the interaction so you can have them make a Diplomacy check to determine his impressions of the group.
Designers’ Notes
Starsong Hill (and the other settlements in the adventure, particularly Drellin’s Ferry and Brindol) are intended to be more than just places where the PCs can rest, heal, and buy stuff. They’re there so the PCs can interact with the residents. Take the time to let the PCs develop some friendships in Starsong Hill, Sylbaran, and Brindol, and you’ll make the adventure that much more important to the players.
