The figure at the top of the short pedestal is hunched in shadow behind some loose hanging drapes as Chaela Tas awaits its response. When her voice rests, the silouhette pauses for a moment before it stands. Stepping forward, you see the form of a tall and muscular changeling in an ornate suit of armor. They lock eyes with each of you in turn before begining to speak. "I know who these ones are, and I know what they have unknowingly done on our behalf," they say as their form shifts from their natural changeling form to settle on Gray the inkeeper, then Tye Copperkettle, then a little red kobold that strikes Erisna's memory. "What they have done for us in their ignorance is of little import. It is what they will do for us now, knowing who we are that speaks to their character," the figure says before settling back down in his chair.
Eck was born in Dragoneyes, and has made it their life's mission to improve the lot of changelings that live within his district. Eck has little interest in other changelings and their cultures, and is at their heart a pragmatist. Eck will not assist others unless they are confident that by doing so he can advance The Tyrants' own interest. Bottom Line: If you want Eck's help, you better be ready to make a deal that is worth their while.
Eck's concerns with Cavallah sending assassins and bounty hunters make them an easy ally, for now. Their immediate interests are the separation of Dragoneyes district from any Boromar Crime Family holdings, and the promise that Ilya Boromar will pass legislation to cease the dismemberment of changelings found to be criminals. The common practice is the removal of the middle digit on the right hand, forever identifying a changeling as a criminal.
Fear: Eck fears the oppression of all changelings, and the subtle racism that his people face manifesting into something more diabolical.
Flaws: Ek has taken his actions against the law too far and has decided to manipulate the powers that be from the inside.
Goals: To infiltrate the existing power structure in Sharn and create a utopia for his people where they no longer have to fear ridicule.
Means: As leader of the Tyrants, Eck commands the organization’s many “implants” and is individually talented in combat and deception. Eck has even been known to have junior changelings in the order impersonate him in his natural (changeling) form.Mental characteristics
Personal history
Eck was born to a mother and father who were both rogues trying to make a living in a world that had already decided who they were going to be due to their race. His father was a proud man, despite his line of work, until one day he was captured by the Sharn Watch in the process of a petty theft. They discovered what he was, and removed the ring finger of his right hand. Shamed, and marked as a criminal, Eck's father was forced to sever the rest of the hand himself in order to make a living- using a prosthetic until his early death on the streets of Sharn's Welcome. His mother then turned tricks at Velvet's to provide for young Eck until she too died from a man who beat her to death after her "companionship".
Seeing the unfair treatment of his parents propelled Eck on a trajectory to improve the lives of changelings in his city, but it also planted a hatred in him that he has not acknowledged. He is ruthless and pragmatic- and no one truly knows how far he is willing to take his plans to protect his people.
Eck, also known at Tyrant One, is the leader of the changeling syndicate known as "The Tyrants" in the Dragoneyes district in Sharn. He is a brutal and pragmatic leader focused on the welfare of his people above all else. Eck is distrustful of every form of power in Sharn, and uses the meager resources he has to infiltrate and collect information on their plans. To stop Cavallah, Eck was forced to expose many of his agents throughout the city. This was devastating to his business, but integral to getting the word out in time.
