Session 21, "The Last Lieutenant", 17 Eyre 998 YK

General Summary

When we last met, you had begun your desparate attempt to prevent Cavallah from completing her plan to collapse the city of Sharn by disrupting the magic from the Manifest Zone that keeps it standing. You learned that a goblin army had been amassed in the ruins of their old city beneath Sharn, and you notified your allies of the coming threat before going after the goblin warlord yourselves. Between you and your goal, however, is Harash- a vile gorgon that delights in petrifying his prey before disfiguring the statues they become. You experienced this firsthand- with the loss of Glittergem's leg at the Battle of the Boromar Ball, and again in the Statue Gallery, where you encountered several petrified members of House Tarkanan- some of which had been decapitated to make room for some viscious vargouilles.   You have been joined by Keth, Tinker, and Ashe who have stopped momentarily to attempt to restore as many of those petrified members of House Tarkanan as they can.   Now, you find yourselves at the mouth of a long, dark tunnel that is crudely cut into the stone around you. Ahead, you expect to find the ancient retreat of Halas Tarkanan, now occupied by the gorgon lieutenant. What would you like to do?
The Sharn Dragons pressed on, avoiding the unwanted attention of any of the other inhabitants of the Long Hallway, a fissure in the rock behind the Mud Caves that served as a cooridor to the ancient redoubt of Halas Tarkanan and his gang of followers. The party emerged into a open hallway. As they ventured closer to their destination, they began to hear the taunting voice of Cavallah in their ears. They searched the old barracks room attached to the old hallway and found a heavy door. Abandoning any pretense or element of surprise, the Sharn Dragons broke through the heavy door and found themselves in the inner sanctum.   While approaching a statue venerating The Shadow/ Aureon's Shadow, they were set upon by Harash and two of the grotesque monsters you encountered in the House Cannith warehouse (Session 0) and in Dalamar Navaris' laboratory (see Session 10, 12 Therendor 998 YK.   Rare was petrified immediately. She experienced strange visions, similar to the dreams from her patron, depicting a group of robed individuals carrying a goblet that was once an artifact of her people in Xen'drik. Using her ethereal form to learn more, she discovered notes etched into the margins of the tome they were carrying that read "Prophecy: Assassin's Goblet, kill the Queen".   The party fought blindly against the gorgon, and soon discovered that he was able to escape- though badly wounded. After searching the chambers, they found the materials Harash kept to undo any unwanted petrification and Ashe was able to perform the ritual to return Rare to her natural state. Meanwhile, the party learned Tinker's origin and the story that brought him to Sharn. Finally, they discovered the entrance to the final leg of their journey: a tunnel carved by some arcane force that led further into the bedrock beneath the city. Glacias flew down into the tunnel and out of range of Rare's bond with him. After a few agonizing moments, he re-entered Rare's mind- but only long enough to express shock at the crossbow bolt lodged inside him.   Enraged, and also aware that they were racing against the clock, the party descended into the tunnel to chase down the gorgon and make him pay. When they finally reached the terminus of the well-like shaft, they found a shallow puddle of blood, and could just barely make out the silhouette of the last lieutenant rushing to warn Cavallah.
