Session 5, 9 Therendor 998 YK
General Summary
In an effort to parlay on behalf of The Crooked Mirror, the party maneuvered its way toward Cavallah's lair- perched high above Malleon's Gate in the superstructure of the towers that loom above the neighborhood. On a derelict bridge suspended over 500 feet above the Lower Ward, the party slowly began to make its way forward. After some near-death experiences, Glittergem found herself mounted on a House Orien gryphon staring down a fireball that had just exploded from a nearby bridge.
Crossing the Bridge:
A team of kobolds, establishing a cordon to prevent the shifter thieves from escaping, began to fire at the party as they made their way toward Cavallah's lair. They were equipped with a war staff and used it to try to blast Glittergem out of the sky and prevent Therin and Rare from approaching. Rare fell off the bridge again, and by some form of kismet found herself in the arms of the friendly firbolg she had met just a few short hours prior. He gifted her a Shavaran Birch Focus and a Feather Token before setting her back down on the bridge near where she had originally fallen. The kobolds put up a meager resistance before attempting to flee, but only one of their original four escaped successfully.Navigating the Hub:
The party encountered a poison trap that had been sprung and recovered some of the treasure left behind by the shifter thieves, Click and Clack. Deciding not to chance the several swinging scythes, they continued north into the hub that converted the heat from the furnace into electrical energy. Only taking minor damage, they escaped from the trap to find a minotaur at the top of the stairs.Meeting Cavallah:
Kar Bloodhorn, after receiving the code phrase "Do not pity the wrathful tyrant" escorts the party inside the hideout. There, they saw Keth and his crew of orc bounty hunters. He was explaining that their next bounty, one Diggory Smith, was the last bounty that they would take for Cavallah before seeking out their original quarry. Before long, the party was brought before the gang leader- who turned out to be an elderly goblin woman with an eye-shaped pendant and a walking stick. Regardless of any perceived frailty, she immediately proved herself to be a ruthless and powerful force by snapping the minotaur's neck in front of them. This revealed Kar Bloodhorn to be a changeling infiltrator, which Cavallah clearly expected. After negotiations progressed, she accepted the party's payment to her and demanded they also hunt down and kill a changeling going by the moniker "Tyrant One". Before the party was allowed to return to the city, the bloodthirsty goblin demanded that they entertain her and her medusa advisor, Harash. After an astonishing display of marksmanship, magical talent, and acrobat skill (enhanced by Keth's crew performing a ritualistic sword dance) Cavallah seemed satiated. To appease her bloodlust, however, the party was forced to duel Keth to the hit. Keth originally attempted to deny the goblin her entertainment, but in a grotesque display of power, the half-orc found himself no longer in control of his own body as he took his position. In a lightning-fast display of skill, the half-orc drew a wand and struck each member of the party before they could successfully land a blow.Leaving the Lair:
After the duel, the party is escorted from the hideout. Descending through the building, the party encounters a sphere of Darkness intended to obscure the entrance to Cavallah's lair and disorient the party. Both Therin and Glacias, uneffected by the Darkness spell, were able to accurately determine the entrance they used to enter the lair. Returning to The Crooked Mirror, victorious but exhausted, both Glittergem and Rare returned to their rooms to recover. Therin, however, returned to the Boromar Estate to discuss his recent findings with Ilsa Boromar. She awarded the party 700 galifar for their efforts, and tasked them with finding this "Tyrant One" and proposing an alliance to take down the Daask cell in Sharn.
