The Biblioplex
The center of Arcanix is the Biblioplex, the university’s main library. At the heart of the library is a snarl, a tangle in the fabric of magic, that glows like a miniature sun in the grand Hall of Oracles. A loose spiral of multi-colored energy, called "The Flux" flows from the snarl and reaches up into the heavens and marks the location as a center for magical learning.
In the years since the end of the Last War, the Biblioplex has been listed in the remaining nations of Galifar as a "copywright library", and receives a free copy of every book published in those nations. Occassionally, an author of a particularly popular novel or reference tome will be invited to the Biblioplex in a ceremony where they place their work on one of the university's illustrious shelves.
Arches welcome inquisitive minds into the library. Inside, almost every surface from the floor to the high ceiling is jammed with stacks of books. The interior of the Biblioplex is vast, with long hallways, archive chambers tall enough to have their own weather, and even pools and moat-passages crossable only by boat. Thirteen lines of beacon-towers radiate from the Biblioplex like enormous spokes. These Torches of Enlightenment stretch out to the thirteen floating towers of Arcanix and beyond, more than a hundred miles into the surrounding countryside. They burn perpetually with magical flame, symbolizing the path toward learning and an escape from ignorance. The Long Room The main chamber of the old library is known as the Long Room, a 213-foot long hall is the historical heart of the library and contains the treastises written by the original members of Arcane Congress in 15YK under the supervision of King Galifar I. Filled with a staggering number of books, organized only by size due to practical reasons, the Long Room serves as the entrance to the rest of the Biblioplex. At the center of the Long Room is The Flux, a tear in the weave that emits multicolored energy in a loose spiral up into the staggeringly tall ceiling above. To the left, a wide set door leads deeper into the surface level of the library. To the right, a narrow door leads deeper into the bedrock below the library. A fabled fourth door is said to exist somewhere in the library, but almost 1,000 years of students have so far been unable to find it.
The Long Room is sparsely decorated due to the number of books that it holds. The shelves themselves are carved with deep runes that have been filled with a clear glass that reflects the myriad colors produced by The Flux. Though most of the energy is directed upwards, occasionally a stray mote of light will branch off and travel through the chamber. Busts of the original members of the Arcane Congress adorn small shelves that jut out from the bookshelves that hold their work.
The Flux The Flux was created by the immense magical energy that created the magical university. It pulses with the energies of the Weave in a mesmerizing display that has captivated guests since the earliest days of Arcanix. Originally an intermittent burst of energy that would dissapate and reappear at random intevals, the tear became a permanent fixture when Arcanix was magically hoisted into the air and brought to its current location in Arcanix.
Rary the Traitor's Animated Spellbook One of the original members of the Arcane Congress, Rary betrayed the Congress to one of its immortal enemies. Though the fate of the evil archmage is open to interpretation, his spellbook is housed in the Biblioplex in a hidden chamber, bound in heavy chains.
