Journal Found in Sewers - Atherik's

20 Barrakas, 998 The time has come for the final act of my tragic journey. My Annabelle, my daughter, stands before me, innocence radiating from her being. It is this purity that I must forsake, for the prophecies demand the ultimate sacrifice. The warforged replica, indistinguishable from the real Annabelle, awaits her fate, a vessel for a destiny that looms on the horizon.   As my heart breaks, I convince myself that this act is necessary, that I am protecting her from the horrors that await. But doubt lingers, a flickering ember in the darkness. Can my actions truly be justified? I question the price I pay, the toll it takes on my soul. Yet, I press forward, guided by the echoes of prophecies and visions that whisper of a future shaped by my hand. She will be free from the horrors of the cold sun, her body immune to its chill, without need of the sunlight or sleep or sustenance in a world tainted by his vile embrace.   Annabelle, oblivious to the role she plays, smiles at me with unwavering trust. It is in this moment, as I stand at the precipice of my final sacrifice, that I am consumed by a bitter irony. My intentions, cloaked in noble purpose, have led me down a path of darkness. Masvirik, the Cold Sun, will rise, and I will forever bear the weight of these choices. May Cornelia forgive me. May Aureon forgive me. May Eberron forgive me.   21 Barakas, 998   The preliminary results have been fruitful, if painful. Despite several early and unsuccessful events with adult specimens, children appeared to be the ideal candidates for the procedure. Their souls, being so young are more easily transfered into the phylactery via the Nexus. Indeed, without the treasure trove of Khyber Dragonshards, we may never have been able to afford this experiment, let alone conduct it. The favor of her majesty Queen Dannell pays many dividends.   Annabelle has regained consciousness and acts as though nothing has befallen her. While her phylactery remains rather indiscrete, her new structure is truly the mirror image of her mortal shell. The souls of children appear to be more malleable, and the urchins populating the alleys of Metrol appear to be a near endless test pool from which to gather specimens. Once we discovered how to fine tune the vibrations ensnaring the soul within the crystalline structure, all else was child’s play.    Truly, the process of converting the girl was so easy that the largest problem that I am currently left with is how to dispose of the body. I harbor a small fear, unlikely though it may be that Cornelia may discover just what happened to Annabelle here. It is unlikely to be found in my laboratory, but I would prefer to remove any trace that could link back to our experiments.   While adult specimens have provided issues previously, the enormous step forward made with Annabelle emboldens me. My contacts have indicated that there is a Kalashtar serving among the faculty of the Wynarn Institute. Preparations to procure the professor are well underway for another iteration of my experiments. It would truly behoove our work to see if his plane soul and his Kalashtar soul may yet be separated. In truth, I have no need for the plane soul, but a captured Kalashtar would greatly help our negotiations with the Dreaming Dark. They may yet prove powerful allies in our preparations for the Cold Sun.   Another potential specimen has been floated by my master of crows, a Xen’dral elf left on this plane after the Mourning. While we have found several of their settlements abandoned, little is known of their current whereabouts. Our best guess is that they withdrew to Thelanis upon the Mourning and something has kept them from returning. If we find a way to contain the Eladrin’s soul, we may yet be able to harness their ability to traverse planes, not only to Thelanis, but if Amastacia's theories prove correct, then to other planes yet locked away from us.    Unfortunately, preparations for the Queen’s masquerade in a week draw me away from my work, perhaps I can gather the Kalashtar and the elf before the event. That said, the goings-on may be a good opportunity to collect a few important specimens discretely.
