Afterlife
Afterlife is the refugee settlement that has formed outside the Korth city walls. It is a sprawling ramshackle town filled with the cast-offs and unwanted peoples of Korth.
After the defeat of Levistus and the fall of the Tower of the Twelve, there were thousands dead. There were even more displaced and homeless. Having lost their homes, places of business, friends and family, they had nothing.
The Temple of the Sovereign, helped arrange the purchase of hundreds of tents to be set up just outside the city walls.
The catastrophic need of the refugees overwhelmed the already shaken church in Korth.
Victor Dupree and Bonaddale offered the help of the Order of the Magnificent Butterfly. Funds quickly flowed in to feed and cloth the many in need. And the name of the Order grew as did their influence in the city. It became comman place to see citizens wearing a yellow butterfly on thier coats or hats.
Those living in the refugee camp and physically able, were put to work clearing debris, rebuilding and clearing the dead for cremation or reanimation.
After a year, the refugee camp had doubled in size. People from other parts of Khorvaire had taken up residence a s well, businesses sprung up like bars and general stores and brothels.
In five years, the refugee camp now a sprawling mass of ramshackle buildings, small to giant sized tents, detritus and underground warrens spread across three square miles outside the walls of Korth, now called Afterlife.
Places and People of Note:
The Graft: The Stitched, a new people and dispossessed, quickly carved out their own small section. The Graft is governed by the Collective.
Lot 14:
One of the oldest areas in Afterlife. Originally one of the areas designated as a camp for those without homes to return to in the city, with neat rows of tents. Now it is a cramped maze of tarps, lean-tos and shacks, that are rented out weekly at the lowest prices. Which is considered expensive considering the living conditions. Lot 14 is a large triangular shaped area, two sides are nestled against the exterior corner walls of Korth, with one side hemmed off by missed matched fencing. The “proprietor” of Lot 14, is a older Halfling of house Ghallanda, named Pertu . She lost half her dragonmark when she lost half her right arm during the battle in the Tower of the Twelve, and possibly all of her patience. For security, she employs a towering full blood orc of the Shadow Marches, named Shovel. Shovel is mostly deaf and refers to Pertu as Great Mother.
The Open Grave: a tavern, a large deep pit dug into the ground with a patchwork tarp acting as a roof to this locale. Home to the worst of Afterlife and serving some of the best ale in Karnath. Ran by a stocky dwarf-sized tiefling named Barringo.
