Adventuerers of Alaire
Leander the Half-Orc Paladin, Gilroy the Human Wizard, Maylee the Human Fighter, and Urlan the Half-Elf Barbarian
Leander has faced more adversity than most in life. As a Half-Orc he was abandoned by his mother, and though he possesses great charisma he has never been able to overcome the natural oppression of his race. His order, The Silver Keepers, devoted followers of Torm, fell to corrupted leadership before his training could be complete. Separated from his childhood friend, Erenna, Leander took to the road for many years attempting to uphold the ideals of his former masters, as well as searching for the true nature of his orders abrupt end. Leander is young, brash, and inexperienced, yet tireless, dedicated, and kindhearted. In time he found himself on a Red Wagon of Farenwell marching North towards the Orcish hordes of the Algor Range in order to fend off their seasonal raids. There he met the rest of the party, and found himself accepted as the shield of the group, as well as their moral compass in times of need. With the true heart of a hero Leander wishes to redeem his temple, and stop others from falling to the same fate. Gilroy never pictured himself an adventurer. No, he is in fact more of a scholar at heart, far more comfortable in a warm library than the depths of some perilous dungeon. Yet his curiosity often gets the best of him, and the subterranean mysteries of Alaire linger on his mind, baiting him into taking the actions of someone far more brave than he. For over two decades Gilroy has studied at a hidden college, Nelfaron’s School of the Arcane, focusing on the art of transmutation magics under the tutelage of great mages and mysterious masters. However, endless days as a student was not Gilroy’s fate, as he was tasked with a monumental request. “A single Aasimar lives on Alaire, and she is of great interest to us. Find her, and bring her to Nelfaron’s” he was told. So Gilroy left the school, and took to the road, finding a compatriot, and armed guard, in Maylee who possessed far more adventuring experience than he. Their search brought the eye of the Farenwellian Inquisition upon them, and soon enough they were forcibly conscripted, and shoved on a Red Wagon to be shipped North and fight the Orcs. The rest of the party quickly took to Gilroy’s intelligence and creative solutions using transmutation, as well as his willingness to bend the rules in order to assure the group ends up one step ahead of their enemies. Not long after meeting the others Gilroy was gifted his familiar, Silas, an incredibly curious and somewhat playful Gazer, which only caused him to question the true motivations of his school, and the old masters who sent him on this quest. Maylee was born in Farenwell, and served during the conflicts known as “The River Wars”, a brutal and bloody retaliation against the Northern Kingdoms of Sarengar for centuries of raiding. Due to her incredibly martial proficiency she gained a name for herself, especially her incredible abilities with the longbow, her favored weapon. Maylee has no qualms with using this skill to deadly ends, which is how she came under the employment of Gilroy the Wizard as a hired sword on the road once her battles had ended. Despite her relatively rough exterior, Maylee is kindhearted and caring, especially towards children. She has seen the terrible effects of war, and while she accepts it as an inevitability, she aims to help wherever and however she can. Maylee was quickly accepted into the group for her combat abilities which have shown to be invaluable time and time again with a single well placed shot. One might consider Maylee to be a bit quiet, and perhaps a little stoic, but she’s really quite fond of her compatriots, and doesn’t miss opportunities to both antagonize and encourage them in private when needed. And when she knocks an arrow? Well, there is no distance, armor, or numbers that will give you the advantage. Urlan is the first of his kind, the outcome of an arrangement between Humans and Wood Elves who live in the Western Pines of Sarengar. When the Farenwellians began their first great push to expand their borders Urlan’s families sacred and hidden sanctuary came under threat. Begrudgingly an alliance was forged, and consecrated through Urlan’s birth. Some day he will have to lead his people, yet to them he is an outsider. Not quite one of them, and not quite one of us. When anger and resentment would overtake Urlan he would retreat to the wilds, where he was taught to live off the land, mastering the techniques of his ancestors. His parents wished to groom him as a leader, but Urlan felt the pull of nature, and spent much of his time alone honing his skills and body. As he matured he began to realize his duty, however, not long after agreeing to take the mantle of leadership, the Farenwellians captured him along the borders of their land, and forced him onto a Red Wagon. Urlan is young, naive, strong, and as ferocious as his appearance suggests, yet he is also wise, cautious, and surprisingly calculated for a barbarian. He was immediately accepted to the group because of his skill with a great sword, but he has proved his valor time and time again by standing in the front lines next to Leander with the intent of taking the blows in his companions place. One thing troubles Urlan, however. In his dreams he is visited by his ancestors, both honorable and devious, and many are actively doubtful in his abilities. He wishes to save his people and turn back the Farenwellian’s, but first he must learn to be true to his heritage.
