Session 47: Albert & Orana Report

General Summary

The game begins still in initiative, using the same order as the prior game, with only Orana and Albert present. In the first round, Orana is put through the ringer, unable to defend herself being stuck still in the effects of slow. Sadly, this time Nina's aim is off, as are Gwyneth's sword, but everyone else aim is strong. Albert, however, tries to escape by downing a potion of invisibility and Koji fails to pin him in place despite advantage. Merta and Senra being in the doorway, however, blocked his only way out.   Soon Orana broke from the slow and rebuted to Trajan, using a new skill the group hadn't seen to empathically damage and making damage dealt felt and wound the damager dealer, thus downing the dragonborn. Soon brought back by Nina's cure wounds, and restored by Astara's healing spells. Seeing her imminent loss, Orana gave all she had, but shaken not only by the pain, but Astara's spectral hand clinging to her insides, she failed to land much at all, unmade quickly and downed by a strong combo performed by the shadow cousins.   Albert trying to hide was running out of option by the spreading flames, and his screams of pain gave his general location, permitting a manipulation of the flames by Senra to pin him between two dressers, where he was easy to spot. Trajan using his 'golden' tongue unbalanced him, where he stopped trying to run but with strict conditions, where Merta, needing a 20 or more, rushed in even more stern and intimidating, forcing the scientist to allow himself tied up.   After some disagreement and debate, even after the map was taken down, the flames were put out to ensure the group could loot the place safely, while ensuring they could restart the fire upon departure. The North of the lair was then looted, for notes, books and items on the inspired bodies.   Astara then performed a Speak with the Dead spell on Orana, learning the following:
  • Orana believed the Quorri couldn't afford to loose control of Rierdra (in Sarlona)
  • Orana also believed the Dreaming Dark fears the cycle of the Quol Darai death and rebirth resuming
  • Upon asked why they work with the elves and liches of Aerenal, Orana says that they don't
  • Orana doesn't know all the locations of the Inspired headquarters, but confirms there is one in each of the capitals in Khorvaire
  • Orana explained that a Quorri bond can be broken by death, but otherwise depends on the type of bond.
  •   GAME BREAK   The crates and bodies were ransacked, and the mirror shattered, keeping shards of the glass in Senra's pack.   Meanwhile, Albert was also questionned collaboratively, with many providing their input. Astara did most of the questionning aloud, while Trajan provided a potion of Mind Reading to Eavaan to do in mind questionning and probing. Albert failing his Wisdom DC gave Eavaan a head-ache as they tried to see the point of quorri implant, only to discover that dark quorri can also be born, in a process that mirrors that of the creation of the Kalashtar race, but through demonic-abberrant-human hybrids, such as Albert. As for what is wrong with him, only a lifetime of explosions and chemical fumes.   Astara zoned in on Albert knowing Yvan, discovering that the bard from home is actually an Expirementer, and THE experimenter in Aundair, but also the first to be made an Inspired from a grown, normal human (as an accident) and learned to replicate the event. He then pushed the experimentation and was responsible for the events of Redragon. When asked if he knew of Yvan's likes and dislikes, past odd uncomfortable imageries, it was noted that Yvan is cruel and enjoys his work much, including all types of mind games. Albert did not know when Yvan is in Xen'drik, nor did he even know he was gone. Yvan doesn't have a formal lab like Albert, and moves around, but has an altar of some type in his apartment, and works a lot from Stormholme.   It was then confirmed that Orana was the only ambassador in Wroat and Breland as a whole, especially with the others now dead. Albert couldn't tell them much of the plans or which leader was in the clutches of the Inspired (the map now in your possession however, helps there) as he mainly took orders, and supplied the order with mind shielding gear, which is long and complex to do. Seeing he had little information, the group debated letting him live, and panicking, he tried a last ditch effort to escape, despite his rope binding, using a Quorri Fear skills and covering himself in black, disfigured smoke. Many were frightened, and see Koji whimper as one of them, Merta, unimpressed by the fearsome display (probably because her own skills of intimidation are just better), ended the man then and there.   The streets getting busier due to the time of day, the group set the place on fire and left, finding refuge in a low end inn at the end of town, just on the outskirt of the gate. Recovering, the group discussed then slept.   That night, Trajan and Merta were invaded by troubling dreams, seeming unrelated one to the other, but unsurprising after fighting so many spirits of the plane of dreams and nightmares. Merta closed herself off as a result, relying on her trusty Koji for comfort, shaken by the imagery, and Trajan, after waking the others through a scream in his pillow, bolted off crying. Astara tried to ask Gwyneth for help but that proved useless, the woman far more used to the life as a lone wolf to have developed social skills. Eavaan was already gone and in nestled in a nearby barn loft. A roll of luck dice decided the fate of the next encounter, with Trajan running and Astara chasing in unknown directions. Luck had it that the Trajan ran by the barn, and Eavaan was able to spy him, sending a mind message to stop him.   END GAME   Post game time was used to distribute loot and items collected.

Notes

Orana's Scheduler (Book)

This ledger is a collection of events mostly past, showing meetings, agendas and the likes. This ledger dates several years back. The following meetings would stick out, as it starts mostly with physical medical visits and standard appointments, noting many details of the prince's physiology, diet, recognition, scars, etc.   Then, right after the attempt on his life by Enora, the ledger has the word OPPORTUNITY in large letters and circled many times in ink. Right after, there is a trip where the prince was gone on a 'health retreat' for 3 weeks.   On return, there are other multiple physical appointments until a month after, there is a note mentioning "Assimilation complete".   A mention talks about an 'entry scar' getting infecting and a treatment plan including salve and potions of vitality.

King Boranel's Health Report (Document)

Hand written notes over a report of heart beat and blood analysis, all with the identification of the King, ads the following (this report is the original, hinting a copied forgery would be in the official records).   "It proves true that diluting psionically enhanced Torpor within a health potion is in fact, non detectable by any magic means or traditional means.   Subject is showing gradual health decay looking like the symptom of a bad flu or pneumonia."   EDIT "Over time the deterioration of the tissues are showing signs of damage aligning with a poisoning. Will need an explanation. The king is days away from death as it is.   Dyes and restrictive access will ensure the signs aren't found until the body's review at the mortuary."   Two Words are then scrawled in a haste and circled in red ink "Opportunity: Droamm"

Quick Infos

Trajan's Dream

As night comes and your mind wanders the deep crevices of the dreamlands, a voice, a familiar voice interrupts whatever fantasy your inhibitions had concocted to pass the dark hours. "Trajaaaaaan." That distant, faded voice, grabbing your attention. Looking away to find it's origin, you spy the walls of the Mournlands, the cast of wind growling as background noise to the voice, the rest of your previous faded away. "Trajaaaaan! Where are you boy?"
This time, the voice, desperate, questionning, beckoning pulls you in. Formless, you thrash forward through the gasping walls you find yourself in a foggy, desolate land of grey and ash. Slithering through the landlocked clouds, you find a silhouette, pacing to and fro in the fog. Though you cannot see details, you know this silhouette to be dragonborn, and the hunch of his back hints to a poor state of health and wellbeing. "Trajaaaaaaan…. please… come to me. Astral above, help me find him…."
A loud suction noise echo and you are violently yanked back, and you wake, with that feeling of having fallen and just landed, covered in sweat and off balance.

Merta's Dream

It has been a while, since that strange sense of distant familiarity invaded your dreams. But tonight, that sense returns. You find yourself, in a dream where travels is involved, whether your own dream had you changed room, or travel a road for whatever reason… you find yourself at a strange brick wall, as the sky quickly greys, dimming the light and blocking the sun. Not quite night, where the moonlight can bathe one with comforting blue hues, but like the threat of a storm, looming high above.
That wall in front of you, bears a great window, wide and inviting. On each side, the wall seems to go on forever.
The sound of dragging, and the clank of metal draws your attention to the other side of the window, compulsion to place your hands to the glass, press your face against the cold to peer the other side.
There, just beyond, spreads a vast land, where a log fog lays, covering the ground from view, and there, just like the day he left, is your brother, 'Jak. Just like before, there is a rope slung over his shoulder, which he holds onto, and though the same, his clothes are more ragged and torn than before, his skin more pallid and greying, his eyes more sunken. He trudges ahead, not seeing your, dragging behind a large crate bound by the rope he holds on the other end. That crate has changed too, bigger and reinforced with metal… heavier. Making each of his step harder.
As he passes you, the fog is pushes and as it heaves like waves, it's absence reveals tombstones below. Many stones… a cemetery. For reasons fully unknown to you, your brother is in a cemetery. You witness him stop at a stone, and kneel. But instead of paying his respect, he opens his jaws, far wider than he anatomically should be able too, and inhales deeply. A strange, white energy pools from the stone and flows to your brother's maw, as he swallows it whole. What, do you do?
(Permit one action)
Not seeing you still, he stand and kneels at the next stone, repeating the process. What do you do?
