Session 56: The Vault of the Dead Report
General Summary
We begin as the battle continues, quickly downing the last of the skellies in the room to focus on Corporal Carmichael. Everyone oocly in good spirits, the dice gods were not happy. Many low rolls were had, while the boss would crit on the party members. Merta was hurt many times over, while Trajan, thinking he was safe from opportunity attacks was slashed in the back. Negotiations were attempted, but the Revenant just wanted his revenge, and telling him his purpose had vanished, proved the opposite of fruitful. Still, little by little, they managed to take it down, only to have the ghost in the room try to possess (and fail) Trajan, and then Eavaan.
Merta looted the Archeron sword the Corporal carried, and with Astara's identification, they gathered the armor was cursed, resistant to bludgeoning, but at the price of vulnerability against slashing and piercing. The ghost proved posh, a former necromancy responsible for the creation of more advanced undead. She tried many options to get out of the room she's bound it, saying she could hitch a ride, but Admiral Lana Darask (not of any house) was denied.
The group then went in further and talked to the guards, Trajan learning that there was a past incident when through possession, one of the guards let out a dangerous ghost into the public. Then, hearing of weird spiders, dispatched infernal talking giant spiders, only to find a crack leading down, with red smoke that corrupted the once normal spiders. Astara sent spiders to investigate and learned that FAR below, is a tunnel with lots of little lights and weird people walking in it. Also, a CON save later, spider now talks some infernal and now can eat meat. I'm sure it's fine.
The other opened room lead to an altar of Dol Arrah, Arawai and the Keeper (Dark Six). In the rubbles, they found an amulet protecting an undead creature from turn undead. It is worth a lot of coins, but illegal to own. A problem to solve later. Meanwhile, after much trouble, we end with Trajan lockpicking the door, leading to the natural cave complex of the Vault of the Dead.
