Session 57-59: Fiends and Undead Report
General Summary
The following 3 sessions were spent exploring the complex of the Vault of the Dead underneath Korth. In the natural caves the lot found wisps they had to contend with, along with several zombies and skeletons, all of which were dispatched easily enough. A few injuries happened, mainly to Astara and Trajan, but the undead was dispatched of, leaving their ashes and ectoplasm to be collected.
However, amidst the fight, the group head footsteps nearing, and the proclamations "Death to the Cyrans!" of Corporal Carmichael echoed, as he reached for a hidden cache and pulled out a secret wand, attacking the group with it, no armor remaining. Once downed again, the group lopped off his head and put it in Merta's bag, to prevent it from returning and reforming yet again. Astara tried to identified the wand multiple time, but only ended up taking psychic damage from the attempts, hinting that this item was either rare or even more valuable, and would require a professional identifier.
They also found a stair case leading down.. 30 minutes down as they get on the landing. There, more wisps are spotted but don't seem to spot them. Orange wisps, different than the normal ones. Scouting ahead, they find a conglomeration of skeletons mesmerized by a glowing obelisk, and a muttering undead pacing alone in a cave. Trajan tries to assassinate the skeletons (and oocly, can one shot any he hits without having to roll damage, as an insta kill given their level and the ease that are standard skeleton) However, his rolls are bad after only 2 kills and the whole group falls into battle.
Skeletons are dispatched fast, with Merta taking her spot as the nearly unhittable tank, using the Acheron's greatsword to quickly down the skeletons. The noise though, draws the attention of the muttering undead (a ghast), and they join the frey after 2 rounds. It isn't alone, as 2 ghosts and a specter form near it. Eavaan casts hypnotic pattern on them and only the specter resists, giving chase to Trajan, causing a bit of damage. It is downed quickly after, but soon is revealed that a bunch of wisps, moving invisible, were drawn in to, and each get to attack from their advantageous hideout of invisibility, hurting multiple people (Merta, Astara, Nina and Trajan). Many gets broken down and Trajan goes down... twice. But he is healed via spells and potions given by Astara-Eavaan. Senra casts a fireball on a group and gets rid of multiple skeletons and injures multiple wisps, despite their fire resistance, and later her last spell slot on the 2 ghosts, hurting them both a lot, one finished by a dissonant whisper.
By end of session, there is one wisp left (orange), one skeleton and one ghost, to be resumed top of the round, in session 60, with everyone up and good to go, but low on resources. You know that the orange wisps can use a spell to hurt and at the same time, heal themselves. The ghosts so far seem only to attack with material weapons.
