Session 7: To Sharn!

General Summary

The group started their teenage adventure with a trip finally far from home. They began onboard the lightening train, a contest-won ticket in their inventory for a ride to and from each. They were heading to Sharn, on this day celebrating Aureon, the Sovereign Host of Knowledge. The holiday is known, as Aureon's Crown.   It turns out to be big celebration in Sharn, the largest of Breland's cities, maybe even the largest in all of Khorvaire. The city of Towers welcomed the group within its busy metropolis. The group arrived to be welcomed by a lady giving a breakdown of the day's events and direction to regular House Orien coaches, should they wish to traverse the vast city. They were informed that the city comes into 3 major districts opened to the public: Lower Sharn, Middle Sharn, Upper Sharn. Each had narrower district, and the upper levels are accessible by stairs and bridges, or skycoach or rental mounts.   Twig departing from the group due to being overwhelmed by city life and the lack of nature, Astara going after him, the rest of the group reminded each other that they were due for breakfast, being 8am and all. So they went to Olladra's kitchen to enjoy a free meal, including exotic Owlbear egg for Nina. Together they savored and planned their next activity. Youka's aim was the Pavillon of the Host, for the great masses of the day. The rest were off to witness the debates at the great Arcane Tower, the Esoteric Order of Aureon, where they listened to an active point of politics in Khorvaire, which is the recognition of the Droamm country as an independant nation. Droamm as it stands, is a nation of monsters or different folk, inhabiting the harshlands West of (and officially part of) the country of Breland. It is led by the Daughters of Sora Kell, the legendary queen and rumored mother of all hags. The coven of 3 lead this city into a semblance of order, with customs and culture and even laws. The difference of the culture is one, what is in question, and two, the morality of accepting violent monsters as a civilized nation. The group, unanimously sided with acceptance of the nation. When public opinion was consulted, all three had a voice to share on the matter. The debate had no resolution, but many new perspective to consider.   Twig and Astara had found their way to Skysedge, the druidic parks high in Upper Menthis, adjacent the Morgrave University. There, they calmed and witnessed a gardening expo and were able to collect some of the fruits on display for food. Astara left Twig to relax further and headed for some research in the Morgrave University Library. On the way, she met a young dragonmarked halfling girl from House Valadis, who explained the nature of dragonmarks and the Houses. Her house, handled mounts, and gave Astara a nice Griffon ride (at a fee). The Library was vast, with 3 levels of books and high technology to track each one, and easily locate them. Research was done focused on religion and necromancy. Not much was in the public domain for the mechanics of Necromancy, but texts do depict a profound culture linked to it in the elven islands of Aerenal. There, the Undying Court follows the Blood of Vol faith. Research progressing well, Twig eventually joined Astara and collected books of his own. Sadly, the security system was able to pick them up and he was unable to walk them out of the library. Given he simply explained that he was new to the system, he was instructed that if he wanted to take anything out, it had to be in the form of photocopy (which wouldn't be digital, but old printing press style, with a set of mage hands arranging to copy the pages). He got pages of each teammate in topics he thought they would like:
  • Dragons, for Trajan
  • Knighthood, for Youka
  • Bardic traditions, for Aiobheann
  • Telekinetics, for Nina
The split of three meanwhile attested to a Trivia contest, at the Golden Horn's Circle of Song, a bardic association for those of the tradition. They learned trivial tid bits each, then on their way out, got the chance to a little participation of their own for a prize. Trajan won his second chance question, earning himself a medal, Eavan answered correctly and earned a silver brooch with a sapphire and Nina successfully cheated to the answer with Trajan's aid, also earning herself a brooch. All medals / brooches were given to Trajan who seemed quite pleased with the winning adornments!   On the way out, they met with Astara and Twig on their way to meet them. Together, they all agreed to go back to the lower area and found themselves some mounts to do so. They flew down on Giant Owls and Giant Eagles, heading to the Diamond Theatre in Lower Menthis. There, they had the option to participate solo, or in a duo. Aiobheann asked Trajan to be her partner, and Twig asked Nina to be his. Astara, being they were in uneven number, didn't want to dance solo, and decided to break the ice, scanning the place for a male contestant that would seem like he also is itching for a duo but is partnerless. She found a 'target' of the description waiting in the solo dance registration line: a teenage half-orc, pulling more on the human side, with a fade and black long hair tied back in a braid. Dark eyes and small tusks, he was dressed for such a competition, and seemed to look to the duo lineup with envy. Not holding back at all, Astara took him by surprise and had him stammering and sweety, but willing to participate with her. Aiobheann and Trajan were first, opting for a Waltz. Aiobhean seemed to naturally take to the rythmm (high roll - 16), but Trajan (rollled a 5) was nearly tripping in his own feet, and bumped the judge panel's table with his tail. Still, they gained applaused and were decently scored! Some contestants went in between, scoring a little higher, and then Twig and Nina were up. A bit nervous, they went for a more upbeat routine. Twig did ok (roll a 13) and had decent rythmm, while Nina fumbled a few times (rolled an 8), but again, overall, gained a decent score. Another group of contestants went on their turn and did very poorly, resolving to chicken dance and making the viewers and judges laugh instead. All in good fun. Astara and her partner, Ulendil, were next and opted for a quick step. Ulendil's (rolled a 17) nerves dropped, clearly in his elements and he switched to a more assured and even coy stance. Astara (rolled a 15) didn't miss a beat and they even added mild acrobatics to their routine, earning them, the highest score of the night! Taking the prize, Astara earned a well fabricated music box... and Ulendil's sending stone. Twig had a moment of protectiveness but overcame it fairly quickly, as Astara reminded him, she didn't need the protection and was ok.   The group as a whole, is growing up.   GAME END
