An Unholy Temple
General Summary
The party began the night locked in combat with four suits of armor animated by the trap triggered by Felton. After defeating the animated armors, the party spent some time investigating the tomb of Nephilia. Nephilia's epitaph read"Here lies poor Nephilia, Murdered by her envious friends, What she lacked in good grace, She more than made up for...in other areas.
Deciding to leave Nephilia's tomb undisturbed for the time being, the party turned its attention to uncovering what became of the poor village adventurers.
According to the rather pale Melania, she, her brother and their two friends descended into the temple intent on finding treasure enough to free them from a life as common villagers. Disturbing several coffins turned out to be a less than grand idea as the monsters awakened within attacked the young interlopers. With her brother and friends fleeing, Melania found herself possessed by a spirit trapped in the temple by a curse.
The spirit Sianna communicated through Melania that she had been innocently drawn to the temple by Nephilia. Nephilia turned out to be a 'very bad person, a necromancer' who cursed Sianna to spend the rest of eternity locked within the temple. Sianna promised that if the party could break the curse, she would leave Melania's body and the girl could be returned to her village. Otherwise, Melania would be fated to die and rot within the temple.
To break the curse, the party needed to find the soul gem hidden in a laboratory beneath the temple and wash said gem in a magical bath within Nephilia's private chambers.
The party knew that there was information the spirit was holding back but could see no choice but to find the soul gem. The party descended down the stairs hidden beneath the lovers' statue and found themselves in a strange lab complex.
Felton opened a chest in what appeared to be a torture chamber, releasing a spirit residing within and battle began.
