Attack on the Frogwart 7/18/20

General Summary

The intrepid party left the Butterskull farm after helping Big Al clean up after the kobold attack. Armed with a letter of recommendation from Big Al, the party entered the village of Oak's Sweep. Welcomed to the only inn within the village, the party sat down to a generous meal and hearty drink. The village seemed to be in good spirits despite the uptick in kobold aggression over the last few months. The night came to an end on a down note quite literally as Alice Wurmwood took to the corner stage and flubbed her way through a tune.   With the rest of the party snoring in their beds, L72 heard a noise from the main level of the inn. Displaying remarkable stealth for such a large being, the warforged crept down the stairs and surprised a group of kobolds breaking into the inn. After shouting out an alarm. the cleric held off the attack until his fellows could join the battle.   After defeating the creatures, the party searched about for clues as to the cause behind the attack. First they learned that the kobolds had never dared to attack the village itself. Also, there was no sign of the kobolds scaling the palisade wall or any climbing tools upon the corpses. Most importantly, the bard discovered a note hidden on one of the kobolds. The note, written in a finer hand than the threat found at Big Al's farm, clearly ordered the kobolds to murder the party.   After the attack, the party met several of the villagers including the mayor Farkus. While outwardly welcoming the party, Farkus did not seem happy that the adventurers intended on attending the village meeting the following day. Still, Quipp and Pen, halfling proprietors of the Gleaming Frogwart, spoke up for the mayor, explaining the man had been mayor for several years. Perhaps his attitude stemmed from his wife's disappearance not long ago.   At the meeting, the mayor strongly proposed increasing the militia and related facilities to help guard the town. Many of the villagers objected to the increased cost as their taxes were already a burden. However no one offered any other suggestion other than to hire the party to venture out to investigate the kobold movements in the surrounding forest. All decisions were tabled until the meeting reconvened the following day.   The party spent some time talking to the guard captain. While Fel is convinced the captain is somehow involved (along with the mayor and everyone else in the village), the man seemed honest in his answers that he never knew the kobolds to have the focus to use magic or tactics.   The captain decided to ride to Butterskull to see the damage for himself, leaving the party to ponder its next move.
