Cult of the Ebon Fang
The Cult of the Ebon Fang revered the use of poisons and torturous ointments and dedicated itself to The Mockery, one of The Dark Six . There were three founders, the most important was Nephilia, the wife of a rich noble in the region. The cult used a temple hidden within the forest to the north to ply its trade.
Though secretive in nature, the Cult did find some notoriety amongst those interested in their skills with poisons. Many of the assassinations that changed the history of Eberron owed at least part of their success to the cult's passions.
Eventually, the cult turned against itself. Factions of each of the founders conspired against the others until the animosity devolved in outright violence. The murder of Nephilia signaled the cult's end. Without her wealth and influence, the other factions fell to the suspicions of outside pursuers. As the cult collapsed and many of its secrets found the light of public knowledge, bounty hunters paid governments and rich private citizens ran most of the cultists to ground.
Before Nephilia died, she cursed her rival Sanina, the architect of her demise. The curse binds Sanina's spirit to the ruined temple with the statue of Lovers within the temple. While the Gem of Binding remains intact in the chamber beneath the statue, Sania's spirit can not leave the temple. To destroy the gem, it must be placed within the pool of Nephilia's blood and the guardian must be defeated.
