Demonkin

Aeshira (translated in Sildaran to 'kin of the Hells'), more colloquially known as demonkin are the unholy offspring between demons or devils and mortal beings. Demonkin stand out among the sentient races for a number of reasons. While they take on aspects of their mortal kin (stockier and shorter for dwarves; more pointed ears and slender frames for Sildaren descendants) their skin tones usually take a reddish or red-purple tone, more reminiscent of the hellish creatures that sired them. Horns are a common manifestation as well, with the thickness and number of horns often giving an indication of the rank of their unhallowed parent. However, most demonkin do not live long enough to reach full maturity. Most are killed at birth, typically in a method involving clerics or priests, in a ritual meant to sanctify the hallowed half of the infant's soul. It is believed that this ritual causes the infant to split their soul upon death, leaving them penitent in the Void, and residing in limbo in the Hallowed plane simultaneously. This is seen as preferable to a wholly penitent existence or as the accepted offspring of a demon lord. It is believed that their is no chance at eternal life in the Hallowed realm
