Pon-pon

A pon-pon is a small, white bird that is known for its cuteness. They have heavy cream-colored feathers similar to a seeding dandelion that poof out from their body so if bitten, the aggressor is more likely going to get a mouthful of feathers rather than the full bird. These heavy feathers restrict a pon-pon's ability to fly, only being capable of flight for about a minute before tiring.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A pon-pon resembles a fist-sized cotton ball with a head, beady black eyes, and black markings on its tiny wings. Their actual body is much smaller than their silhouette, the heavy feathers making them appear much larger than they are. These feathers restrict their flight, making them primarily ground birds.   Preditors usually ignore pon-pons, deeming them not worth the trouble. Their heavy feathers easily clog airways, possibly leading to suffocation if eaten.

Ecology and Habitats

Pon-pon feathers arent just puffy, but warm. They usually live in cold places, though not cold enough for food to be scarce.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Pon-pons are omnivorous, eating mostly bugs and seeds.

Biological Cycle

Pon-pons migrate south during the colder seasons to avoid food scarcity.

Behaviour

Pon-pons are social animals and are known to live in groups called fields. This social aspect makes them great pets, as they quickly bond with creatures, even those who would eat them if they had more meat and fewer feathers. Sometimes they bond with dangerous predators, scavenging the scraps of meat they leave in their wake.

Additional Information

Domestication

Pon-pons are easily domesticated and trained with the prospect of food. They make good companions but not messengers, as they struggle to get off the ground.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Pon-pon regular and down feathers are well-insulating and could be used to create heat-retentive clothing. However, killing a pon-pon is usually considered taboo due to its friendly nature.
