Chapter 3

WorldEmber 2021

(3 Days Later)
The day was a bit chilly and loads of people were out and about. I was talking to a few of my friends when I noticed the Doctor. I said I had something to do before leaving them. I headed towards the Doctor as he was walking.
“Nice day, isn’t it?” He said.
I didn’t know if he was joking or not. “Yes, I think it is.” For a cold, wintery month.
“I’d like to introduce you to my friend,” He said.
“Who?” I asked.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” He responded.
I saw the bright blue box in the same place it was 3 days ago. The box was called a TARDIS as stated by Bella. It was supposedly a time machine and bigger on the inside. I don’t really believe that though. Its just a wooden box.
He left for a moment before coming back with a young woman. She was very pretty with brown, curly hair, brown eyes, wearing a red long sleeve shirt with black leggings.
“She’s Oswin,” He said.
“Hi,” She said.
“I’m Madelyn. You might’ve run into my daughter if you’ve wandering around,” I said.
“The red head one?” She asked.
“Yes.”
“I like her. She’s nice. We’ve talked a few times,” She replied.
I was kinda surprised. Bella doesn’t talk a lot around new people. It usually takes awhile to warm up to them. We talked for a bit. I was starting to like her. Although, I did feel that something was off a few times. The doctor and Oswin started talking to each other and I left them alone.

I was back in the house. The warm air was better than the cold, icy air outside. Bella was on the couch reading a textbook. I was doing my own work. It’s been silent for 20 minutes. The occasional page turning was the only sound in the house.
“You’ve never told me about the young woman,” I spoke. She didn’t answer. I repeated the question.
She looked up. “Sorry, what?” She asked.
“You never told me about the young woman,” I said again.
“Oh, her. I forgot about that. I like her. You’ve met her then?” She said.
“I happen to have met her a few minutes ago. She’s nice.”
“Yeah, she is.”
    (A few weeks later)
I was talking to Oswin. We were mostly talking about the Doctor. It was interesting to hear her perspective. I mostly think of him as someone who saves the planet and a kind man while she thinks he’s just a friend and doesn’t consider him as an alien. The conversation ended.
The doctor headed towards me. “Can I talk to you? Just you,” He said.
“Why?” I said. This sounded suspicious.
“Nothing…much,” He responded.
I agreed and followed him. I was still skeptical about his answer. Something didn’t seem right. We stopped in the field. No one was around.
“It’s about her. Can I trust you to keep this a secret?” He asked.
Now this was getting more suspicious. I wanted to hear what he had to say. “I’m good with secrets,” I said.
“Great. This is going to be difficult to explain,” He said.
“I’m interested in hearing this,” I said. I didn’t know what to expect but it didn’t sound good.
“She’s not supposed to be here,” He said.
“What do you mean ‘not supposed to be here?” I asked.
“She’s supposed to be dead,” He said.
I disapproved of this, heavily. Messing with time isn’t good. “Why are you messing with time? Death isn’t something you should be messing with!” I asked.
He was definitely surprised that I knew about time and stuff. “We all have reasons,” He answered.
“What are you guys doing here?”
“Bella, leave,” I said.
“She can stay. I trust her,” The doctor said.
“Are you sure about that? She’s never lied before,” I asked.
“I’ll be fine,” Bella said.
“Me and two friends of mine went to a planet where insane Daleks are held. We went there to get the force field down and then the Daleks were going to blow it up. We found a crashed spaceship and met up with her, well heard her and agreed to let her help us. We ran into some insane Daleks who tried to stop us and eventually we managed to get it down and they got their share of the deal,” He explained.
“Surely someone like you knows all about the timeline. Time is a fixed point and there are consequences for messing with it!” I said after a few moments of silence.
“I wasn’t going to let it happen. It’s not a big event so it’s fine.” He said, “Why do you know about time when your daughter knows more about aliens?”
“Daleks are evil and known to cause destruction. It’s not small when a death happens,” Bella said to my surprise.
“She’s clever,” He said.
“She has a point. Death is a fixed point in time. People can’t change it.”
“It’s not a big thing so it’s fine. Besides she doesn’t remember it,” He said.
“What do you mean she doesn’t remember it?”
“I did it before it all happened. Did I mention it was there for a year? It was going to crash when I got there,” He responded.
“Why would you save one person if it was okay to change time?” I asked.
“You know why.”

We were back inside. There was total silence. I told Bella about what the Doctor told me. That didn’t seem to help. I really hope he knows what he’s doing. Changing time and deaths isn’t something that is supposed to be taken lightly. Whatever reason he has must be a good one. It was awhile before the silence was broken.
“So about the doctor,” She spoke.
“We’ve told him that we wouldn’t tell her. We’re not breaking that promise,” I said.
“It doesn’t feel right to not tell her.”
“Why did you accept the promise if you don’t want to keep it? Besides the person who should tell her is the doctor.”

The Doctor and the TARDIS belong to Doctor Who. Any aliens referenced are also property of Doctor Who.
