Pordetina

Demographics

Pordetina is composed mostly of humans, elves, and aasimar, though the population of half elves has exploded in the last few centuries. The docks area tends to be more diverse, and races from all over the world gather there, though most are not permanent residents. There is a large borough of fey creatures that live in the city, widely believed to be the remnants of the founders of the city and monastery, though the current ruling party tries to discredit that claim.   The majority of the city is fairly wealthy, with a large middle class and small lower class. Most families that live in Pordetina are merchant families, as the city is the second largest port in Messino, and lies only a week's trip from Arcadia across the sea.

Government

The government of Pordetina is based upon a traditional feudal system, much like the rest of Messino. Currently, Lord Rodrigo Borgia controls the city, but in the past, the Fermi family held the power. In theory, the ruling party of the city should answer to the Duke, but in Pordetina, the Archbishop of the Delizia Maro Monastery has traditionally controlled the region.

Defences

Pordetina surprisingly doesn't have much in the way of defenses. The Order of Tempus and Temple of Mystra are considered the main defenses and make up the bulk of the town guard, and there are city walls as well. A small fleet of ironside ships funded by the Order of Torm and Temple of Talos protects the port and there are several ballista towers build in the harbor.

Districts

Florenza Harbor

Florenza Harbor is the second largest port in Messino, and the primary landing for merchant vessels coming from Lyvsk and Union, and the rare ship coming from No-Man's Land. A small population of aarakocra have claimed a block of apartments in the district and form a tight-knit community, but otherwise few people live in the area. Most of the buildings are warehouses and inns.

Marano Square

Marano Square is the busiest area of the city. It is home to the main open-air market, as well as several small temples dedicated to The Thirteen. The square has nicer inns and hotels than the docks and is often where wealthier ship captains and merchant caravans stay. The Waukeen Commerce Center is located in Marano Square.

Butera Cross

Butera Cross is mostly residential and home to the city's middle class. The large tower was once a wizard's tower of sorts, specifically to ancient augurs, as well as the home of the first Archbishop, Altea Butera. Today, it is a museum dedicated to relics of The Thirteen.

Bolzarese Row

Bolzarese Row is another primarily residential district; the residents of Bolzarese are lower-middle class. Even the poorest citizens are considered wealthy in comparison to the lower classes in Rivia or Arcadia. A local mercenary's guild makes its home there as well, and his heavily regulated by the church.

Collezzo Grove

Collezzo Grove is the wealthiest district in the city, and home to the upper-class merchant families that run Pordetina. There is a thriving community of aasimar there, and has a large street filled with stores dedicated to luxury - and mostly useless - goods. There is a large garden, usually referred to as the Hallowed Meadow, but in reality remains nameless. People usually avoid the area, sometimes as a sign of respect, but more usually because of the uneasy feeling people seem to get inside the fence.

Ravesti Center

Ravesti Center is another of Pordetina's bustling districts. Many specialized artisans have workshops in the center, and a growing number of artificers have started to set up shop in the district, though the industry is still small compared to Rivia. The Atheneaum - a large library - is also located in Ravesti Center.

History

Pordetina is an ancient city. Its exact founding date is unknown, and is usually considered to be 1E, 1. The city was founded by a small legion of fey creatures that left the region of Mercy's Oak, though the reasons  for the exodus are unknown. Its history is relatively peaceful, though in 8E, 14, the navy engaged in military action against Hythe. Pordetina's history is essentially the monastery's history, and the city has been involved in most of the questionable actions of the monastery, such as being a staging ground for the occupations of Lyvsk and the center of the Witch Hunts earlier in the twelfth era.
