Spiritworks Technical Institute

One of several magical universities, Spiritworks Technical Institute was established by Rispira Ayrton, the woman believed to have created warforged technology. The Institute began as a small, but well-stocked, laboratory, but over the last few centuries, has expanded into a full university specializing in technomancy.

School of Mechanics

Students of the School of Mechanics specialize in the design and creation of magical weapons and artillery. Many students of this school are recruited by the Monroe Corporation shortly after graduating to work in Monroe labs, researching and developing cutting-edge weapons for the corporation. Some of the more well-known inventions from the School of Mechanics includes various types of magical ammunition, transforming weapons, and performance-enhancing armors. The head of the School of Mechanics is Dr. Graston Remington.

School of Materials

Students of the School of Materials focus on the smelting of unique alloys. This area of study is often considered the most difficult in the school, students usually make a fortune in the Union mining industry. The study of magical materials is regarded as a specialty of Spiritworks Technology, and the Technical Institute has the only dedicated school to it. The school has been known to produce specialized and magical armor. The head of the School of Materials is Dr. Dissa Bragg.

School of Aeronautics

This school is the primary location for the Monroe Corporation to conduct research on airship technology. A large number of airship components are developed here and sent to Arcadia and Belcarra to be used in the production of the Union airship fleet. Students of this school not only learn the inner workings of Union-made airships, they also research ways to improve the fleet, and often work closely with the other schools to outfit ships with better defenses and artillery. It is believed that The Skylark was developed at the School of Aeronautics. The head of the School of Aeronautics is Dr. Sylros Wright.

School of Machining

Perhaps the most famous - and most closely guarded - school, the School of Machining is internationally famous for being the premier institution for research and creation of specialized Warforged. While Arcadia and Belcarra have large, mass-manufacturing factories that build standard models, the School of Machining. This school has produced Phantom units, Beast units, and Magus units, and Stirling, a specialized Phantom unit, was also produced there. The head of the School of Machining is Dr. Valynna Roebling, also the president of the institute.

Structure

The bulk of the population at the institute are students, and students come from all over and range from every age to study at the various schools. There is also a large population of adjunct faculty, often researchers from the Monroe Corporation who can't afford to leave their labs for a full time faculty position. Full time faculty makes up a relatively small group on campus, and the department heads are chosen from their ranks. At the top is Dr. Roebling, a graduate of the School of Machining whose Warforged creations are known throughout Union.

History

The Spiritworks Technical Institute was originally established in 11E, 499 as a research lab focused on improving the already impressive warforged design and developing technology to protect the burgeoning country. In the next few centuries, the Spiritworks Laboratory slowly became a large research institution dedicated to training the next generation of Union inventors and engineers, and by 12E, 401, is considered the premier university for artificers.
