Feast of Apprentices
Every young dwarf based in Brookhill knows that one day their path might take them to Dol Cadarn, the capital of the dwarven kingdom and their suzerain city. Although, the mountain dwarves rule over the Brookhill Dwarves it could be argued that both clans are equally important to each other and have always known this.
The equally beneficial exchange that has been going on for over twelve generations between the two settlements includes many ressources like produce and grains or ores and minerals. Yet, the unquestionably most valuable reessource that Brookhill sends to Dol Cadarn in regular intervalls of fifteen to twenty years is the supply of a young workforce of dwarves. Unlike Dol Cadarn, that lies under a mountain range, Brookhill has never suffered from underpopulation in the time of its existence and was thriving in that regard, but was affected by a severe lack of practical knowledge and experience in many fields. Thus, Dol Cadarn takes these young dwarves on as apprentices in workshops and mines in hopes some of them might stay after finishing their tutelage and if not to go back to Brookhill and be of great value there.
The emotions around saying farewell to a large portion of the young population without knowing if they will decide to come back has transformed into the Feast of Apprentices over the years. It is traditionally thrown by the highest lord of any village or hamlet in Brookhill and lasts for two evenings, where one evening is organised and designed by the fathers and the other by the mothers of the children leaving. The organising party will throw a grand banquet with entertainment and games and host a representative from Dol Cadarn who will guide the apprentices to their new home in the days after.
