Of Nightmares and Daydreams
Six months ago, a mysterious blue flame was caught streaking across the skies of Kalabar, witnessed by only a handful of local residents that were awake at the time, including a young princess by the name of Temperance and her trusted companion teddy, Major Ursa.
Whilst gazing upon the falling star, both were hit with an inspiration - a sudden urge to leave the town of Kalabar and see what is out there in the world. In the intervening time, neither has been able to determine where this spark came from, whether it was something that entered their souls that night or something that was always inside of them, but the feelings it ignited have grown and grown like a burning fire until they began to present extraordinary gifts.
Temperance's love of her people, her need to protect them, and her fondness for collecting crystals, manifested in her the power of nature and crystals, as well as the ability to communicate telepathically with others in the nearby vicinity. At night, while she rests, she has begun to have strange visions - unusual sequences that seem on the outside border of dreams, as if they were memories that were not her own. The visions seem to be pushing her towards escapism, towards running away.
Major Ursa, however, was playing the role of a court wizard at the time with his trusty magic wand (a honey dipper) in hand. When he gazed upon the blue star fire, the nightmares he had devoured from the princess during her childhood all took root inside him, giving him access to the magical power that lies within fear. At night, when he would typically lie dormant (as he has no need of sleep), he began to hear voices coming from the darkness - voices that told him the princess was in danger and that they needed to leave the city of Kalabar.
For the next six months, they would begin to plot their escape - they started to steal what weapons, armour and rations they could, and put together a make-shift adventurer's pack of everything they thought they would need. They had no real idea of how they would do it, but they were filled with confidence that they would make it over the city walls.
As they finished making their final preparations for their departure, it seems they were granted a boon - a strange ship that floated on air flew directly into Kalabar. They had found their lifeboat - but how would they get on it?
