Anamore The Sleeping Isles
Created by Ezra W.
"This is holy land: it could be Adyn, herself, sleeping. We must not disturb her, but we should use the land for greater things. There is an abundance here. It would be sacrilegious to let it go to waste." - Lani Kekoa
Geography
The island is covered in a large lush tropical jungle called the Galribian Jungle. The high humidity and temperatures causes there to be a large abundance of citrus fruits, reptiles, insects, and other tropical wildlife. Few large lakes dot the island, and most of them have crystal clear water, allowing someone to see the vast variety of fish in them.
Landmarks
There are two small mountains in Anamore: Mount Kalani and Mount Mika. Being the highest points on the island, many locals like to climb up them to stargaze during the solstices. Though, some more sinister activities have been sighted on the quieter slopes.
One of the few volcanoes on Edari, Pu'u Kanae is a dormant volcano on the east coast of Anamore. It was said to last go off when the island was first discovered by the other continents of Edari. Many of the locals claim it shall go off soon as punishment for the local unrest.
Towns
There are three major cities in Anamore: Winkai, Burne, Meltura.
Winkai is the more secluded cities in Anamore. It is located deep in the Galribian Jungle on the west coast. Most of the shelters are made of stone, kapok wood, and bamboo. Most have intricate engraving in the walls and doorways of the house that signify local legends and myths. The people there rely heavily on foraging and hunting the local wildlife.
Meltura is the busiest city as well as being Anamore's capital. Due to its large port, the city sees large numbers of goods/people flowing in and out of the island. This is impacted even more by the Mavros Guild, and its revolving door of adventurers. Most of the buildings near the shore hold traditional Anamore architecture but mainland buildings copy motifs from surrounding areas.
Burne is the most cautious city in Anamore. Because it is next to a dormant volcano, all of the buildings are made of volcanic stone in fear of an eruption. Most of the furniture and decorations are also made of lava rock or other crystals found on the island. Even with the brutalist material choice, Burne is a farming city due to the rich soil. Its main farms are various beans and livestock, and it supplies Meltura with a lot of goods for trade.
Culture
The culture of The Sleeping Isles consist of tropical/oceanic practices with mainland influences from surrounding regions. In contrast to the nickname, the people are lively, hardworking people who are thankful for the land given to them by Adyn.
Government
Anamore's power lies in local cities because the agreement of Anamore's first inhabitants to peacefully divide the land amongst them and never fight over the holy land that could be Adyn's mortal form. Each city has a council to decide important decisions of trade, intertown conflicts, and conflicts with other towns. Melutra is the only one with a centralized unitarian government after Nikoloa Kekoa seized power over the town with little resistance. His family line has continued to rule over the town to this present day with Lani Kekoa being the current leader.
Food and Art
The food of Anamore mostly consist of fresh fruits and fish paired with rice and other grains. Most of the food culture consist of family style meals and a heavy emphasis of little to no food waste. Every part of the plants and animals harvested on this land is used even with the abundance of life because of their belief that everything is an extension of Adyn. It would be sacrilegious to let things spoil and be thrown away.
Song and dance are a main staple for celebrations of all sizes as dance here is used to connect people to the land around them. From big holidays to birthdays, the people of Anamore will find an excuse to dance and sing with one another. Most of these celebrations consistence of vocals, drums, and rhythmic dancing. Newer age dancing amongst the youths has included stringed instruments as well as magical illusions to enhance dance moves.
Religion
While most gods are worshiped on Anamore, the main one is Adyn. Being the island that is rumored to be Adyn herself, many are inclined to worship Adyn. As stated above, many daily practices include not wasting any part of the plants and animals the people harvest as they are considered parts of Adyn. Other parts include offerings and prayers to her. There is also a large following to the ocean demigod, Kuluri, because of how closely intertwined the ocean is into daily life.
Recently, there are more religious conflicts with how the island should be used. One side believes the island should be left alone and let the wildlife have it while others believe the island is theirs to use by Adyn herself. Adoloto residents have taken residence in Avantrov since the Ryt's Crusade to try and find any signs of Adyn. Many have left after not being able to find anything, but a good number of researches remain to find her. Some locals have joined the cause, causing further divide amongst the religious.
Population
A lot of the races can be found on Anamore, but big populations of tritons, genasis, and other fey adjacent races.
Most occupations are fishing, weaving, farming, or shipbuilding related. Many of the bigger towns have a large range of jobs with the influx of people. In the smaller towns goods are traded for other goods, so jobs are more familiar occupations passed from one generation to the other. They see it more as something that is needed to keep the community alive rather than something to make a profit.
Clothing
Most of the clothing in Anamore consist of woven clothing with floral designs, flowers, and jewelry made out of bones, seashells, or crystals. Beaded jewelry is a big part of Anamore culture, and most are not seen without a bead accessory.
