The Maw of Eida
"Once your inside, there's always a way to keep going foward. But you have to be careful, because sometimes, there's no way back."The Maw of Eida is a gigantic sinkhole segmented into three parts. This historic sinkhole opened up under the Old Capital of Suraakh, Oor. There's an inexplicable and irresistible pull towards the Maw of Eida. The call of the void, some call it. Due to its eerie resemblance to a digestive system, many believe that the Maw of Eida is not actually naturally occurring and is instead an active organ of the Chaos god herself.
The Dive
The dive is 100km radius tunnel which falls straight down for tens of thousands of feet. This segment is the most well charted out of the three. Stone spires and spikes hang off of the walls. These spires can occasionally contain vegetation, bodies of water, or even ruins. Although they are sparse, these ruins are the most intact within the three segments. Adventurer outposts are often built on spires within the Dive since they are relatively stable and safe from most wild monsters. Certain areas within the Dive have been sactioned off as national parks. Tourists will often accompany adventurers and visit these national parks to view the spectacle of the Maw or go on a hike. Many compare the Dive to a mouth, throat, and esophagus. They liken the spires within the Dive to teeth. The Pit
The Pit is a large open cavern below the Dive. Once at the bottom, it's impossible to see the distant walls or ceiling. The Pit houses its own self-sufficient atmosphere and climate. Giant underground lakes found sporadically within the Pit evaporate water and condense it into clouds. This atmosphere enables the existence of several unique alien-like ecosystems. These jungle-like ecosystems hold a majority of the Maw's vegetation. They consist largely of aberrations, although many monstrosities and beasts reside there too. The Pit is mostly uncharted. When comparing the Maw of Eida to a digestive system, the Pit is often equated to a stomach.Beyond
Beyond is an intricate labyrinth of a seemingly infinite amount of interconnecting horizontal tunnels. Openings to Beyond can be occasionally found when traversing the Pit. The walls of Beyond are always slowly shifting and pulsating. For some unexplained reason, most of the ruins of Oor can be found within this layer of the Maw. The once proud buildings of the old capital have been transformed by Eida's chaotic magic and have now fused into the terrain of Beyond. These buildings have essentially turned into naturally occurring perpetually changing dungeons. Since the buildings are continuously shifting with chaotic magic, many rooms and structures break the laws of physics and give an almost liminal feel. When comparing the Maw of Eida to a digestive system, Beyond is often equated to the intestines.
