The Fear Gods
Due to the magical strength of Edda, faith in the gods is what provides them their strength, their sustenance, and their presence in the world. It is their only connection from their respective Planes of power and through it they grant the miracles and powers that would be otherwise impossible.
But there is a cost to this faith. For when people believe strongly in certain virtues and values, they Fear the antithesis just as greatly. This Fear has given way to eldritch monstrosities, ones that exist far closer to the material plane than any of the gods, and goes on to feed off the fear of more than just those who worship and hold faith, and exist to drown the world in the Fear they represent.
Ironically, some people find faith in these entities, to the point of worship in it's own right, so these Fear Gods have risen to the strength of bestowing Domains as well.
- The Ascendants believe in the strength of infinite possibility and growth, so there always exists the creeping fear that ones life and actions are predetermined and impossible to change which has formed The Mother of Webs. Her powers can reach the domains of Order, Unity, and Fate.
- The Great Blue is the faith in constant progress, and to keep ones eyes on the future ahead. But alongside that is the fear of being replaced and overtaken by what one creates, until ones own existence and progress are rent meaningless. This fear has created The Uncaring Extinction. It has modified the domains of Forge, Knowledge, Nature, Order, and Time.
- The True Giants believe in the natural, chaotic cycles of the world, and in the strength of those far greater than understanding. The sense of scale invoked by the Giant deities bestows a fear of meaningless, especially in the wake of the uncaring cycles of the world. This fear has grown into The Unknowable Vast. It stretches into the Knowledge, Nature, and Space domains.
- The Cabal of The Night Sky believes in the power of prophecy, and that all things are meant to be in one way or another, along with the observable truths of this world. Therefore, the fear that what is observed is untrue, and that ones own mind is lying to itself has manifested into The Spiraling Madness. It's powers twist the Arcana, Knowledge, and Trickery domains.
- The Natural Spirits believe in the strength of Nature, and the belief that ones memory lives on in the land, inspiring the lives of the future. Therefore, the fear of one being entirely forgotten, and ones legacy being suddenly destroyed has channeled into The Flames of Desolation. It's powers burn into the Death, Forge, Light, and War domains.
- Those who follow The Lone God believe in the strength of Community, and helping one another. But, as is the case with any social interaction, there exists the fear that the people in front of you are lying, that they're false in one way or another. This fear has opened the gates to The Laughing Stranger. It's maddening song echoes in the Arcana, Life, Trickery, and Unity domains.
- The Mother Dragons faith lies in generosity and the power of light, metaphorical or literal. This has awakened the fear of going unnoticed, along with a fear of the darkest of nights, collating into The Quiet Dark. It casts shadows into the Arcana, Light, Trickery, Twilight, and Space domains.
- The Court of The Heavens holds its faith in the prospect of honorable living, and pride in ones self. However, the intensity of this focus on Honor makes those who believe fear judgement and observation when they indulge in less than honorable acts, lending power to The Eternal Eye. It observes the Arcana, Knowledge, Order, Fate, and Twilight domains.
- The God-Fae hold faith in the beauty of Nature, and the power of promises, deals, and contracts. But when one breaks a contract, that calls upon the fear of retribution, along with the fear of those predators that lie in nature. This has cultivated The Wild Hunt. It chases with the power of the Death, Nature, Tempest, and War domains.
- And of course, all who live fear the coming of death, giving way to The Inevitable End. It tolls within the Death, Grave, Order, Fate, and Time domains.
