The Leper

The Leper, once a beloved king, now roamed the lands as an exile burdened with shame and pain. His journey through the vast desert had left him physically and emotionally scarred, yet he carried on aimlessly, seeking to distance himself from the past. Far from his home, steed, family, people, and kingdom, The Leper wandered on, a solitary figure lost in the sands of fate. As he traversed the desert, fate brought him face-to-face with a herd of jet black stallions and their riders. These riders, armed with scimitars, seemed intent on confronting The Leper. Undeterred, he stood tall, holding his beloved but shattered greatsword, Arthane, in his calloused and ravaged hand.   In a display of unexpected prowess, The Leper swiftly dispatched two riders, using Arthane to cut them down. The remaining riders hesitated, witnessing the stoic and commanding presence of this scarred wanderer. Yet, The Leper's heart longed for companionship, for a chance to be part of a group of equals, not as a leader but as one of them.   As he approached civilization, he yearned for acceptance and understanding, hoping to find people who could look past his broken visage and see the strength of the man he once was. Perhaps a tavern could provide him with the companionship he sought, among strong, charismatic individuals and natural-born leaders who could empathize with his burdened soul.   The Leper's journey was far from over, and as he entered the realms of civilization, he carried with him a history of loss, struggle, and redemption. Despite his exile, he remained a king in spirit, seeking to find his place in a new world where his scars and hardships would be understood and respected, and where he could once again stand tall, not as a ruler but as a brother among equals. His heart was filled with hope that someday, he would find the solace and belonging he so desperately craved.   Upon reaching the holy city of Elturel, The Leper sought divine counsel and comfort. While prying at one of the local temples, a mysterious woman named Lulu approached The Leper and offering the companionship and place to belong. Intrigued by her offer to such longing, The Leper agreed to meet her upstairs in a designated location, a local tavern. Cautiously, he made his way there, unsure of what awaited him. To his surprise, as The Leper arrived, he found a group of fellow adventurers already seated at the table. Virgil Firecock, a Tiefling undead warlock; Volodar the Feisty, a Half-Elf Monk; Portobello, a Mycoid Barbarian; Idris Eldribble, a Vedalken Soul-knife rogue; and Doc Cox a Human reborn Cleric. Each of them had been promised something by Lulu, drawing them together.   Their conversation was interrupted when Lulu herself finally arrived, revealing the dire truth that Elturel was destined to be destroyed. Her mother, Zariel, planned to sink the city into the Nine Hells, dooming all who resided within. As Lulu spoke, the ground shook violently, and the roof above them collapsed, plunging Elturel into the depths of hell.   When The Leper and his newfound companions awoke, they found themselves in the nightmarish realm of Hell. Elturel hung suspended in the air by chains, while demons roamed the fiery chasms below. Before they could process their situation, they witnessed a woman and her two children being attacked by demons. The party sprang into action, defeating the demons and saving the family.   Grateful for their aid, the woman informed them that more survivors had sought refuge in the Holy Temple, the last bastion of hope amidst the chaos. However, she feared another demon attack in the absence of Ravensguard, the protector of Elturel. With a sense of urgency, the party rushed towards the church, battling demons along the way.   Reaching the Holy Temple, they assisted the survivors and discovered that Ravensguard had gone in search of a missing group of soldiers. Concerned for his safety, the party ventured to the graveyard where they found Ravensguard, controlled by a malevolent helm he wore. With their combined efforts, they freed him from the helm's control, and he revealed that an old member of the church named Gideon Lightward had betrayed Elturel, aligning himself with Zariel.   Determined to confront Gideon and thwart his plans, the party set out on a mission to locate him. Facing numerous trials and overcoming challenges, they finally confronted Gideon in a climactic battle. With Gideon's defeat, they learned of his use of infernal machines to navigate the Nine Hells.   Ravensguard, grateful for their assistance, entrusted the party with a soul coin to power one of the infernal machines they had obtained from Gideon. With this new tool, the companions embarked on a journey through the harsh wastelands of Hell, seeking answers on how to save Elturel from its imminent destruction.   Driven by a shared purpose and a determination to rescue their city and its inhabitants, the party braved the perils of Hell, faced off against demonic entities, and forged alliances with unlikely allies along the way. As they sought the means to reverse Elturel's descent into damnation, the comrades remained united, drawing strength from one another and their unyielding resolve to bring light back to the city.
