Arawynn Eldercrown, Scion of Growth
Arawynn Eldercrown is the Scion of Growth. Also known as the Maiden of the Brambles, she was a Firbolg whose family was lost in the Wars of Succession between the Four Kingdoms of Eglarest, Tiriath, Valonde, and Dorwine.
Adopted by a family of refugee wood elves in northern Eglarest, Arawynn integrated into their society completely, eventually adopting it as her own. Amongst the treetop villages of her newfound family, she developed a deep and spiritual love of nature itself - often spending more time chatting away with the flora and fauna of the wilds than with other Soulborn. In recognition of her devotion to nature, she was dedicated to Arhah, King of the Wilds, and raised to be a maiden priestess in his service.
Despite showing little proficiency in the channeling of divine miracles and never receiving training of any kind in use of primal magicks, Arawynn nevertheless naturally manifested druidic powers that would only continue to grow in their breadth and prowess over the centuries. Unlike most who channel the spirit of Edras itself, she learned to walk not only in the wilds, but also among the civilizations of the Soulborn - quickly becoming a conduit between the two disparate worlds. It was through her understanding and devotion to both nature and the Brisingelion that numerous conflicts between the Song of Edras and Soulborn kingdoms were avoided over the years.
When the Labyrinth of Thorns erupted far to the north of Eglarest and the Fourth Howling began amidst the unending waves of fae, Arawynn was called into service by the High King. Known as a peaceful, but immensely powerful practitioner, she was assigned to assist Knight-Commander Orirel Thranwe in the defense of southern Eglarest. En Thalas, the northern capital, had already fallen and so an evacuation was ordered and a new line of defense was set at the land passage between the Azure Depths and Great Merrow Lake to the northeast of Ela Ancalen.
Knight-Commander Orirel Thranwe’s forces held against a seemingly infinite tide of faerie monstrosities for weeks until finally their numbers had dwindled such that defeat seemed inevitable. Reinforcements were not projected to arrive to the front line for at least another fortnight, but to retreat further south would be to doom Eglarest to fall. So, in a moment of faithful clarity, Arawynn Eldercrown rode out into the midst of the fae hordes protected by the last remaining squadron of Eglaressian Dragoons.
One by one the honorable gryphon riders of Eglarest fell around her until, at least, she was alone. Wounded and dying, Arawynn pulled herself to her knees and gazed longingly towards the distant forests. With her last moment of life she drove her staff into the blood-soaked soil and whispered a prayer to Arhah. The King of the Wilds did not save Arawynn Eldercrown’s life, but he did answer her prayer.
From the spot where her staff was planted in the battlefield an impenetrable thicket of brambles and thorns burst forth from the ground, growing with such ferocity and speed that within moments it covered all of the land from the Azure Depths to the Great Merrow Lake. Rising hundreds of feat into the air, this natural barrier would later come to be known as Thranwe’s Weald for the miraculous defense Knight-Commander Orirel Thranwe was able to launch from within the safety of its branches.
For her part, Arawynn Eldercrown earned her apotheosis, joining the ranks of the Brisingelion as the Scion of Growth.
