Grothin the Throated, Scion of Silence
Grothin is the Scion of Silence. He passed away and was exalted by Oolene in 2212 AS after enduring 99 days and 99 nights of torture at the hands of Mez'gothud, a cruel Nalfeshnee baron of Magog's court.
Raised and trained as a scholar, Grothin was so moved by the plights of the heroes of his time, that he left his academy and went out into the world of adventurers to serve the brave and foolhardy as a medic. Many years later, a particular set of his companions - their names and stories now lost to time - had found an ancient weapon of the Primordials from the War of Souls and planned to lock it away where it could never be used against the peoples of Edras. Grothin was captured during their escape from the stronghold the weapon was housed in.
The fiend wracked Grothin's body, mind, and soul for months in an attempt to wrest from him the location of his friends. Unwilling to reveal their secrets, Grothin bore more than any mortal creature should be capable of bearing until one night a servant of Oolene, a simple owl-spirit, slipped into his cell and tore out his throat, ending his suffering.
Grothin frequently answers the calls of those who swear to keep secrets in Oolene's name, appearing as an unusually tall dwarf wearing mithril platemail. His gray beard and hair is braided into complex patterns and his still-damaged throat is sewn together with strands of moonlight. In his right hand he holds a glowing book that only he can open; it is said that it holds records of all the secrets that only a single person knows. He never speaks, but will write when such communication is necessary.
