Odds & Ends

  • If a character misses a check by three or less, they can be offered the chance to succeed but with a penalty, or have a negative consequence associated with their success. Some examples: Athletics - You successfully swing on the chandelier, but suffer a level of exhaustion. Investigation - You manage to search the desk and find the hidden compartment, but you knock a vase to the ground, alerting enemies in the next room. Deception - They’ll go along with your lie, but only for a bribe or a favor in return.
  • Rations and Encumbrance rules aren’t used. Characters can carry what seems reasonable for a fantasy hero. As long as they’re not in a desert wasteland that’s devoid of water and food, then it is assumed they are eating and drinking enough to stay alive.
  • Ammo is not tracked, though rolling a 1 can result in you being “out of ammo”.
  • Magic Items are not automatically identified during Short Rests. They can be identified by normal means (research, the Identify spell, attuning to them, etc.), however.
  • Levelling up can only happen during a long rest in a suitable location for a character to 'continue their training'.
