Strumming-of-Strings, Scion of Music
Strumming-of-Strings is the Scion of Music. He was deified by Sielach in 276 AS during the Golden Age of the Gods when he leapt from a cliff. Strumming-of-Strings, like all Kenku who bear the curse of their treachery during the War of Souls, was born without a voice of his own. Inspired, rather than discouraged, he travelled the world collecting and cataloguing all of the beautiful sounds, voices, and noises of Edras - from the cry of a dying soldier on a distant battlefield to the beating of a hummingbird's wings as it fed on a hyacinth blossom.
In his travels, Strumming-of-Strings taught himself to play all of the instruments he came across, eventually becoming a master musician of the highest order. He learned how to blend the beautiful sounds he had collected with the playing of instruments, composing the cacophony into brilliant masterpieces that inspired kings and peasants alike. All he asked in return for his grandiose performances was free reign to walk the lands of Edras, spend his days among the people and learn their voices, their sounds, and their struggles.
After reaching old age, one day Strumming-of-Strings found that his voice and his fingers had finally failed him, that he could no longer make the music that was his life. He climbed to the highest cliff of the land, as he wished to die knowing the joy of flight that was denied his people so many centuries ago, and sang one last strained and hoarse song. Then he leapt to his death.
It is said that Sielach was so moved by this heartfelt symphony of memories and joy that she granted the old kenku wings of golden fire, upon which he ascended into the sky and disappeared into the setting sun.
When he appears, Strumming-of-Strings materializes as a tall kenku with feathers crafted from silver and with scales, claws, and his beak formed from the purest of platinum. He wears the fine clothing of a royal minstrel wreathed in golden stitching and at his back rest a pair of wings made of golden flame. He does not speak in words, but sings with the voice of a thousand artists. However, when he is summoned in anger, his voice is a terrible thing - a shrieking chaos capable of shattering bone and steel. His visitations are said to have inspired hundreds of pieces of art and music throughout the history of Edras.
