CHRYSALIS

CHRYSALIS are a group that encompasses and represents those who possess extreme modifications (genetic, arcane, or cyber) and believe them to be the future of evolution.

History

Traditionally, CHRYSALIS was born out of the scant records of a pre-Gap society dedicated to improving their bodies through arcane grafts and biothaumaturgical surgeries. In the millennia since, CHRYSALIS has expanded far beyond that humble beginning, and now counts among its rank people of every species who seek to technologically and magically improve themselves. Today, the use of basic cybernetics is fairly uncontroversial in the Galactic Alliance, but the augmented have come to encompass and speak for those whose modifications are extreme enough to set them apart from mainstream society and who believe that such augmentation represents the necessary future of evolution.

Structure

The ruling Cypremacy Collective, seen by many as the mouthpiece of the Augmented movement, pressures governments and corporations alike from the Woven Towers, a trio of round, tentacle-like spires that twist around one another in a triple helix. Though the Collective’s members are permanently wired into their buildings—bodies rendered effectively immortal by medical machinery, and brains constantly sifting the planet’s vast infosphere—their bug-like drones and living agents travel the galaxy carrying out their policies and influencing politicians at the highest levels of government. Many such agents are androids or chimerae, who are venerated in a near-religious way by those who see them as CHRYSALIS ideals.
The private labs and universities of the Cypremacy Collective are beyond compare, attracting the most advanced technomancers and biothaumaturgists in the galaxy to organizations like the Everlife Adaptation Corporation, Haruspex Interplanetary, and the Spellsight Cooperative - all corporate fronts for CHRYSALIS.

Members

While CHRYSALIS have long been associated with mechanical and magical modifications, most members are only concerned with advancement and self-improvement in general instead of particular mechanisms, leading people who have biotech augmentations to identify as Augmented as well.

Relationships

While the Cypremacy Collective promotes acceptance and understanding, some Augmented groups like the Remakers and NextStep believe that 'stocks' (non-augmented people) are actively hampering progress, and use the motto "evolution doesn't need consent" to justify pouring nanites into water supplies or forcibly modifying public figures. The Collective has fought a shadow war with these groups for generations, and usually hires independent contractors to eliminate them, viewing them as the source of anti-Augmented sentiments.
In response to these groups, the Banner of Purity has emerged, promoting a return to the the ancient ways and violence against CHRYSALIS.

Rumor

There is supposedly a secret sect of CHRYSALIS called the Broken that consists of augmented who pushed their bodies, minds, and souls so far beyond the limits that they have become inhuman, insane monsters.
