Snowman
Snowmen are the reserved, isolated dwarves of Ikoala. Snowmen culture is built upon myths and legends of powerful folk heroes and dangerous beasts. Many Snowmen tribes choose to practice an ancient form of life magic many other cultures consider forbidden. Their thick beards and resilience to cold temperatures make them perfect for life in the arctic.
Homeland
Main Articles: Ikoala & Pikalujak Snowmen originally hail from the regions of Northern Europe, Siberia, and Northern America, on Earth. Their ancestors lived in the arctic of Earth for thousands of years before the Migration to Maji. Upon arriving on Maji, the Snowmen quickly founded the kingdom of Ikoala under the rule of their king, Kinngap Marcos. Throughout the history of the kingdom, it has covered two different regions of Maji. The first is a large region covering Northern Lakelandia and two islands of Tropicosia, Ikagsrak and Nigiktak. The second is the island of Pikalujak, within Gabriel's Sea. The first region, which was the original and current region controlled by Ikoala, includes all land North of the Straten Mountains, as well as the islands of Ikagsrak and Nigiktak. These lands are covered by large, taiga forests and tundras. The tundras are especially common in the Northernmost reaches of the kingdom, including the island of Ikagsrak. One major deciduous forest exists within the West of the kingdom, being the Sacred Forest Pikalujak is similarly covered by mountains, taiga forests, and tundras, although being much smaller and the previously mentioned region. It features a large bay at its center, which was historically used as a trading hub for Ikoala. During the Era of Death and subsequent eras, the vast majority of the island has been converted into uninhabitable wasteland and since abandoned.Description
Snowmen can be differentiated from their cousins, the Sandsmen, by their much lighter skin tone. Snowmen have very pale skin, sometimes appearing purely white. They also often feature a much heavier build than their cousins, helping them to remain warm in their arctic environments. Their hair color ranges on a spectrum from pure white to pure black, other colors being extremely rare or nonexistent among Snowmen. Due to their environment, Snowmen often grow their hair out long, including their facial hair. Snowmen males often have large beards and mustaches.Culture
Snowmen are a tribalistic race, many being nomadic hunter-gatherers within their arctic environments. Snowmen cities do exist, but they are small and relatively unimportant compared to the cities of other races that inhabit Maji. The extreme conditions of the lands Snowmen call home have produced many myths and legends within Snowman culture of dangerous beasts that lurk in the depths of the forests of tundras. Many of these myths may have appeared to keep children from wandering away from the tribe, but others may be inspired by truth. These myths created a rich culture based around campfire story telling and legends, or prophecies, of beasts and heroes. Some of the most captivating stories from Maji are told by, or originated from, Snowmen. Many Snowmen tribes choose to use an ancient form of life magic many other races and some other Snowmen consider forbidden. Using this ancient magic, powerful Snowmen mages and shamans are able to embody the form of a werebeast by becoming a skinwalker. This magic requires sacrifices and unholy rituals to preform and as such, the tribes that use this form of magic are often considered highly dangerous. Snowmen architecture and clothing reflects the environment of the lands they call home. Snowman homes and buildings take the form of igloos or huts constructed by animal bones and hides. In areas where resources are more readily available, similar huts may be made from wood, instead of bone. Snowmen cities, although larger that the villages of tribes, still use the same architectural design, being comprised of hundreds of igloos and huts within the city. Powerful Snowmen wizards and kings will often use storm magic to create large castles made entirely out of translucent ice within the cities of Ikoala. The clothing of Snowmen consists of simply, but heavy-duty, coats made from the hides of animals. This clothing helps to insulate them in the cold weather.Religion
Main Article: Dwarven Pantheon The Snowmen mainly follow the Dwarven Pantheon and as such, worship the gods of Atnonut, Jax' Middal, Vah' Poran, and Ikoalaa. They do recognize the existence of Kis' and Tiilaer, but do not worship them for their actions breaking the rules set forth by Jax' Middal. Within the Dwarven Pantheon, the Snowmen primarily worship Ikoalaa due to his connection with storm magic and their arctic homeland. Storm magic is essential for life in the arctic as it can be used to keep warm. Ikoalaa is also known to be a devious god, meddling in the minds of those who have become desperate and corrupted by the wilderness. This sort of corruption is much more prevalent in the cold environment of the Snowmen.Snowman Names
