Life On Edus

Life on Edus is a prosperous one. The Ages pass, and life is shaken up, but the survivors prosper, and populate the cleansed world and often find they forget about the Cleansings after a generation or two. Farmers see life and see the world begin to heal and grow, thus giving them a better outlook on life than those trying to fix a ruined city, or eke out a life in some hovel in a town. This is not to say life in cities is bad. Smiths, carpenters, merchants, food vendors, and good sellers all lead a happy and fulfilled life in the cities and towns around Edus. The world itself still moves and progress continues on without much stumbling. The day to day activities obviously change depending on which part of Edus you happen to live in. Daily tasks or even family jobs will differ as you move along the continent of Edus. The people, the culture and the personalities will change with the borders. This abundance of different peoples is what makes Edus exciting to live in and get down to the people’s level, and see how they live, survive and prosper.
Every nation on Edus all know the seven days of the week, or known as a Sevday. So next week Friday would be called, “Next sevday, Fria.” This feeds into the same calendar we use on earth, but to a differing nomenclature. With no Roman or Greek mythos, the names of the months have been changed as well.
January is known as Jenn, and August would be called Aurutil. The names of the month may change from nation to nation, as there is no worldwide calendar that anyone follows, but for the most part, knowledge of the calendar has been spread by explorers and merchants and is growing in its use.
The Cleansings mark a time of catastrophe and destruction on Edus. It marks an ending of an Age of time and the beginning of another. When Edus cracks and lava wipes the surface clean, the current Age ends and the survivors pick up and begin to rebuild in a New Age. The names of the Ages are known worldwide and do not change, this is due to religion and the fact of most of the Age changes are credited to Deific actions.
Holidays and holy days will differ from nation to nation, as not every nation celebrates the same king’s birthday, or a holy day when a hero from their nation was born. These can be found by discussing with clerics and sages as well as most common folk in the land, who will be happy to tell you when a festival is approaching or a holiday is nearing.
For example King's Watch celebrates the last week of Jewelbright all week in a citywide celebration as the birth of the latest build of the city. Hepulchor celebrates first day of Stonetem as the birth of their current Queen. In Anwar, the people across the nation celebrate the last day of Festil as the mark of a new year.
