Sheng Wu, the Thinker of 1000 Thoughts

Sheng Wu, the Thinker of 1000 Thoughts, is worshipped as the true embodiment of knowledge and history. He is seen as the embodiment of wisdom and understanding, and is revered by scholars, sages, and seekers of truth alike.

Sheng Wu is often depicted as an ancient and wise being, with a thousand ghostly hands, each with an eye in the back of the palm, constantly writing, reading, or contemplating. He is said to have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and is believed to have an encyclopaedic understanding of all things, both past and present.

In Kandalas, those who seek Sheng Wu's favour may find themselves blessed with increased knowledge, the ability to see the truth in all things, and an understanding of the lessons of history. Conversely, those who displease Sheng Wu may find their minds clouded by confusion and ignorance.

The temples of Sheng Wu are typically staffed by monks and scribes who act as keepers of knowledge and history. These monks are seen as intermediaries between Sheng Wu and the faithful, and often help those who seek his guidance. The temples also serve as libraries, filled with countless books, scrolls, and other written records.

Worship of Sheng Wu is often seen as a path to enlightenment and wisdom, and is often practiced by those who seek to understand the world and their place in it. The Thinker of 1000 Thoughts is revered as a teacher and mentor, and is believed to impart valuable lessons and insights to those who are open to receiving them.

Holy Books & Codes

Sheng Wu does not have one holy book, however there are a number of mantras said to originate for Sheng Wu himself, passed down through his followers:
  • Clear the mind, still the body, let wisdom flow like water.
  • A thousand thoughts, a million ways. Seek the path that brings us grace.
  • Meditate, contemplate, find the way. In stillness, clarity will stay
  • The wise know, the foolish doubt. Seek the truth, and light will sprout.
These are just a selection, as some gain favour whilst others fall from common use, the mantra change as all things change.

Tenets of Faith

The tenets of Sheng Wu's faith revolve around the acquisition and sharing of knowledge, whether it is new knowledge never before encountered by the Thinker, or confirming and updating old knowledge. To this end, all those who come seeking knowledge will have it freely laid out before them, to be absorbed at their leisure. The only thing that is seen as sacrilege to Sheng Wu and his followers are those who hoard knowledge for themselves, taking from the Thinker what he freely offers but not sharing that which they possess in return.
