Ancient Sovathy

The Empire of Sovat was home to the ancient race of reptilian shifters known as sovathy, this species was the dominant species on Eien for millennia until they flew too close to the sun. Their civilization fell from the height of glory over 200,000 years ago in an event known as the Cataclysm. (The rest of the world knows it as The Reckoning War, where dragons burned Sovat civilization to the ground.) They hold a bitter resentment towards the Sucera (whom look down upon them) and a hatred of the Herene (humans) due to them taking their place at the helm of civilization.

Ancient Sovathy technology and ruins pepper the planet, with their lost magical skills and technology being the subject of study for generations of mages at the Royal Academy in Larane. Of particular note are the Aeythrane-Sovat Crystals that were once the source of the Empire's power and are sought in modern times by power hungry people the world over.

Sovathy as a rule are known to be an aggressive, domineering species and they are often found as mercenaries and sellswords in modern times. Fierce battles over the succession ensure that the modern remains of the Empire are at war with themselves instead of their neighbors … and no one seems inclined to see the Sovathiy figure out their differences and unite.

Sovaty smiths are known for their steel - with only one family retaining the ancient knowledge of forging Sovat blades. (Considered to be indestructible.) They do not make blades for non-Sovathy warriors. Any non-Sovathy in possession of an ancient blade is at risk of having the blade ‘liberated’ from their possession from a Sovathy merc. They also don’t particularly care about local ownership laws.
