Kaanos - Imperial Capital of Kejas
The sprawling mountain metropolis of Kaanos is nestled in the bosom of the Torshavn Mountains deep in the heart of Kejas. Terrace farming dominates the slopes, painting the mountainside into a kaleioscopic array of stained glass just after dawn and right before the sun dips below the peaks at sunset. A delicate network of roads spiraling down into the valley where the capital itself rises in elegant spires leads to the city center, where the great Temple of Alsvea serves as a radiant centerpiece.
The weather is temperate for most of the year with mild summers and short, blustery winters. Moisture off the Bay of Thieves is channeled straight along the carving path of the river Tem, providing sound river sailing for commercial craft delivering products to the city.
The city is highly defensible, being built around existing structures that date back to the height of the Sovathy Empire. The central core of the city remains much as it would have been when the sovathy ruled, with their characteristic soaring architecture and skyward focus. The Great Temple, however, is a relatively new structure that the Kejasi settlers erected hundreds of years ago to honor their interpretation of the Goddess. Her Kejasi-crafted statues and reliefs are very human, lacking the dragon-like attributes of the old sovathy temple the Kejasi destroyed to build theirs.
