Ramshorn

Ramshorn is a small agricultural center in The Protectorate of Kolwidg. The town has a small population of sheep herders and farmers but is quite wealthy due to the incredible quality of wool that comes from the area. Ramshorn is within the county of Lord Kerning and pays taxes to him. Seneschal Ludwig Eidal is the chief officer of the town and maintains peace and prosperity in the town. Security is provided by a dozen men who are members of Lord Kernings standing force. In most cases legal disputes and criminal cases are handled locally but Lord Kerning may handle the most severe cases when they arrive, typically murders and the such. Near the town are the crumbled ruins of an ancient tower whose stones to large to be hauled away lay scattered on a hill top. Rumors and stories persist of specters that roam the ruins at night, and possibly a secret passage to long forgotten tunnels under the hill. Numerous deaths around the hill have left the area abandoned and forgotten, a mysterious hilltop that none dare go near.

Demographics

Middle Class Humans, primarily farmers and sheep herders

Government

Seneschal Ludwig Eidal rules by authority of Lord Kerning. A tax of 3% is levied on all commerce leaving the village, 2% on all commerce entering the village, and inhabitants pay a yearly tax based on land property owned

Defences

A watch tower sits on the north end of town, a small dual purpose barracks and jail is in the village.

Industry & Trade

The primary source of income for most people is raising sheep while others grow feed crops for the sheep herders. The Dwarf blacksmith Vertigern makes mostly tools for the locals and is contracted by Lord Kerning for the upkeep of the guards equipment. The Mottled Apothecary, meanwhile, makes highly sought after potions and medicines that are known through out the livestock community for their healing properties. The Sleeping Lamb houses traders and merchants coming to and from the town and makes a decent coin due to the constant trade out of the village.

Infrastructure

Several small mills refine the raw wool for sale outside the village. A main road provides access to the Anvil City.

Guilds and Factions

The Union of the Golden Fleece is a mercantile guild of sheep herders and wool textile industrialists focused on maintaining a fair and prosperous economic environment for all people involved. They assist in regulating fair market prices and maintaining quality of high end wool products. Recently the Union has been dealing with a trade dispute between several sheep herders, each accusing the other of sabotage and theft, in the town of Ramshorn.

History

The earliest recorded history of Ramshorn is found about a thousand years ago in The Record of Marcius Goethe, A Census of the Kolwidg Vale. In his record he notes that in this area was an ancient tower on a hill, sealed by some arcane power. A farmstead nearby hosted a large flock of sheep with the most perfect wool, when the farmer was asked how he maintained such a perfect wool and large herd he simply told the author that he blew a Ramshorn each morning and each night, and went about business as usual. To this day the dawn and dusk is greeted with the same, purportedly, horn.

Architecture

Simple wooden fences suffice to keep herds from wandering off and thatch roofed wooden stone structures dot the area. In the village are a collection of merchant houses in the Edwardian style and merchant halls.

Geography

Rolling hills and rocky outcrops break up the landscape. A small copse of trees lie just beyond the town and surround the ruined tower on the hill.

Natural Resources

Hearty livestock feed grows well despite the rocky terrain and sheep can be found in nearly every field and yard.
