The Caeyedan Conquest of the West
"In the West a Great Flame burned, its howl was that of the battle cry, its teeth and claws took form of spears and swords, and clad in steel from head to toe was its hide. With fury and conquest the Great Flame marched north, east, and south all at once and ravaged the plains of Tribusica. And where the Great Flame meant resistance it left only ash, and in the ash stood the banner of the Sun God, and where the weak bent the knee a great harvest and rejoicing of mercy occurred. For the Great Flame was unbounded by its conquest, and only stopped once it reached the banks of the raging River Mersyth."
Sir Jonas la Fallenge, The Conquestrian MarchThe Conflict
Prelude
The Caeyed Empire started off as merely a city state on the western coast. For centuries they developed and built a burgeoning city that expanded exponentially until they pressed the borders of minor settlements around them. With a surplus of population and food they organized armies to march against those who would challenge their dominance. It didn't take much for them to get a taste of conquest before they began organizing large campaigns. They took long pauses between campaigns as time went on, focusing on maintaining civil order and dominance within their borders. A full century of relative peace came until an upstart king wanting to strike his name in the history books alongside other great conquerors took the throne and rallied his forces. He issued ultimatums to the north, south, and east to the banks of the River Mersyth for the people to bend the knee or forfeit their lives. A resounding response came in a united front of city states and minor "kingdoms" disgusted by his demands, but the chance to come peacefully had passed. The Upstart marched his armies in every direction, and thus the conquest began.
