Dwarf

Dweller of the Stone

"Beware the moments of extreme passion, young man, for that's when your steel is at it's weakest." Grandmother swatted at me with her ladle, cackling as she did so, "Beware those who feed the flames, for they are the ones that will take advantage with their hammers and turn your trusty shield into a double-edged blade." I would never forget those words as it shaped who I was.
— Jaggeth Section, Lord of Dronker retelling his favorite memory of his grandmother.

Those who dwell in the stone and earth of Eiria. Calling the mountains their home, hidden within walls of stone and metal. Shaper of stones, worker of metals, forge keepers, those who have stood the test of time. From holding off a war on two fronts to crushing those who would try to invade. The dwarves have done much just as they have done nothing. You will find no finer weapon and armor-smith as well as enchanter, the Dwarves are known for their work in stone and metal. Often they choose to sell wares to the outside world than deal with the world of politics more than content to hold away in their mountain fortresses with their forges kept hot and the ringing on hammer on anvil.

Beauty Ideals

Women
Large, in charge, and able to handle a hammer. Scars, burns, beards, nothing matters more than if she can handle herself in what ever job she undertakes. Finding the beauty of a woman in her abilities as a person. Slothful or gluttonous traits are frowned upon.
Men
Full beards kept nicely are a plus but what most female dwarves find attractive about the men are their skills at either smithing or hunting. If he can't feed or take care of his family he isn't worth his weight in stone. Scars only add to the beauty of a man as it tells the story that he has faced something and lived to tell the tale.

Courtship Ideals

Courtships are not fully important in the world of Dwarves. While leading Dwarves should hold and heir to carry on once they are gone, being married or coupling off isn't a heavily leaned on the action. If one Dwarf wishes to marry another, they just simply ask. Dates, gifts, rank, or anything they could give to make them appealing isn't needed. No happen and yes answers happen.

Relationship Ideals

Drinking, it is just that simple. The ability to handle the rough and rowdiness of the Dwarf automatically makes them like you. They are people built on enjoying their lives and work, they want someone who can handle them as a person and that is all that matters in the ideal of keeping them as friends or more.

Common Etiquette Rules

Physical Greetings
  • Shoulder checking, shoulder punching, rough housing at points is highly common amongst the men of Dwarven society. While women can be softer with embraces, cheek kissing or even just as rough as the men give.
  • When it comes to formal meetings of first meetings, a standard forearm clasp is the general go-to, though some Dwarves are more welcoming and a will often pull the person into a hug.
Verbal Greetings
  • Insults generally revolving around beards or armor and weapons.
  • Boasting about what they did recently that sounds impressive.
  • While greeting for the first time or formally their name, title, and job are given off.
Emotional Demeanor
  • Loud and boisterous people they are not really held to much of a needed emotional attitude towards anything. Though this can often lead to loud arguments over who's edge is sharper, who's armor holds up better, or even who's work is the best looking. They do not fully care as to how they appear to the outside world, it matters little to them and their willingness to stop their day to argue their point show cases that.
Other
  • It often feels needed to be loud to be a Dwarf or enjoy the art of argument. While true to a point they also hold stories, crafting, smithing, or even mining as importance in their world.

Common Dress Code

Male Fashion
  • Loose clothing, bright colors, quick and simple removable layers.
  • Jewelry in the forms of necklaces, belt buckles, sometimes rings.
  • Decorative leather such as belts, vests, bracers, or gloves.
  • Most decoration revolves around one of the key professions of the Dwarves such as smithing, mercantile, hunting, or mining. You can often tell what someone does by their leather carving.
Female Fashion
  • Dresses are very uncommon within the world of female Dwarves, pants are favored due to mobility and less fabric to hassle with.
  • Bright colors seem to be the standard within Dwarven culture. The women do seem to favor heavily embroidered pieces over decorative leather pieces.
  • The embroidery while still follows after the same idea of the leather carving for men, it is often bright colors and at times more feminine.
Armor
  • The armor of a dwarf is thick and generally a yellow or bronze color from the way they smelt the ores down.
  • Large jewels often adorn the helm, while intricately carved reliefs adorn the chest plate.
  • Their armor often comes in degrees of adornment and this is often a way to tell where in the world of Dwarves does a particular dwarf reside.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

  • Dwarf Rams are an important part of the workings of the Dwarves. They are their primary work beast, adapt at not only underground life but above ground moving. A young dwarf will often be given gifted a pair of good breeding stock to supply them with what they and their family will need for their life.

Common Taboos

  • Stone shaping magic is expressly disliked and almost hated by dwarven society. While not outlawed for a Dwarf to learn they could be looked down upon for using it in.
  • There are a few traits that they also see as 'wrong'. Slothful, envious, and gluttonous. Being lazy or not wanting to work often leads to an almost shunning like state, people just avoid you. Jealous of Rafe's leather carving and acts as such towards Rafe and anyone who likes Rafe's work, again people will begin to avoid. Overindulgence and showing it off is off-putting to most Dwarves.

History

Early Dwarven history is as simple as they were created and they stayed in relative obscurity to the outside world. Staying out of squabbles and battles that have stricken most of the known world of Eiria. Only breaking their silence as the Orcs pushed further and the Draconians began to take their share of Dwarven mountains. Spending their years dealing with and pushing back the hordes of beasts. A constant vigil and a constant alert for anything that could turn into a problem.   It was during one of the hotter spats of the dual war that the Anucia Empire pushed on with their plans of conquest. The Dwarves saw the issue of fighting a war on three sides as appealing to their fighting spirit was not to their vaults. Signing the treaty with the Empire, they only saw afterwards how much of their autonomy they had signed away. Though with the help of the Empire's forces they beat back what was left of the Orcish invasion forces and secured their homelands.   With the peace they began working on digging deeper into Stadus. Finding ways of moving through rock without the use of magic, until they reached a point where picks and shovels no longer went through the rock and blasting it didn’t even dent it. Figuring it was some sort of magic, they quickly sealed it off. In this time they began refining their crossbows to repeating crossbows, working to give themselves an edge over the more magically inclined races.   When the Fjorn began to break from the hold of the Empire, the dwarves were inclined to hide behind their stone walls than getting involved with the revolt. Even as the Drassi re-appeared on the plains of Eiria they sat idly by in their fortress of stone and watched what was happening, preparing for the Drassi to come and try to claim their mountains as their own. Even when the Lady Misery was murdered they still do not trust the Drassi’s new Empress and wait for the tentative peace to be pulled apart.

Historical Figures
Jaggeth Section
One of the most beloved Mountain Kings of all Dwarven time. Following his grandmother's advice in almost every step. He was a kind a gentle man and often tried to work out issues with the neighboring kingdoms with words rather than axes or hammers. His passing was mourned but celebrated as one of the more peaceful time in the life time of the Dwarves.   Erith AnvilHorn
Also known as Erith the coward. He is the Mountain King who signed over the Dwarven people to the Anucia Empire. He would fall from grace and disappear into the wilds of Eiria. Unable to face what he had done. It is unknown what happened to him after his disappearance, though tales say he settled down, had a family and lived the rest of his years out quietly.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
When it comes to Draconians, Orcs, and Lamia they will not openly attack or invade but they will fully defend their homes with extreme prejudice. Their bloody past with the three races often colors them rather jaded towards them. Though the Drassi, Lyrans, Lycans, and Fjorn solely lack trust due to lack of a lot of interaction, they neither hate nor like them. While the Humans and Elves are not trusted due to the old empire and the tales of their deeds toward other races. The Falkovians are an unknown entity for the moment. The Ezana are loved and cherished withing the halls of the Dwarves, as they are the life line of moving their goods outside of their boundaries as well as a way to steadily bring in needed supplies.
