Half-elf

A half-elf is the offspring of an elf and a non-elf humanoid, most often a human. They are identifiable by their ears, which are similar to human ears which end in a point at the helix. Half-elves can usually grow facial hair and their coloration can theoretically run the full range of human and elf colorations, although more remarkable elven hair colors such as green or blue are very uncommon. Half-elves often live as outcasts, wanderers, and/or loners, being not fully part of the world of either of their parents.   The aging process in half-elves has been a source of much scholarly and medical interest, as it seems that they can exert some mostly unconscious control over it; namely, when a half-elf chooses one side or the other, their biological clocks align with that race. Half-elves who love humans or humanity find themselves aging in tandem with those they care for, albeit aging very well indeed. Those who love elves or the elvish world age much more slowly, although age they still do, the oldest recorded half-elf dying at 368. Those who never lean particularly one way or the other often pass by around 180. Much is still unknown about this phenomenon.   Carrying and giving birth to a half-elf child is particularly dangerous for a human mother and she will often experience dangerous and potentially fatal complications.
