Merriwich

Merriwich is an island nation to the southeast of Talazic populated almost entirely by gnomes. Currently the royal family, Tervaround, is comprised of King Turen and Queen Ellybell, and their three children, Prince Liffenwasp, Prince Obbly, and Princess Mumblifa. The head of state is Councilman Belbero Ironhide.
Merriwich is about 510 miles across, with its capital being Shimblesby and its most significant port town, marking its strongest point of contact with Talazic, being Zimzoodlebol. It is mostly dominated by forests, hills (including the Jerreddibba Hills), and grasslands. Its population is about 2 million.

Structure

While it is technically a kingdom, the royal family of Merriwich is largely obsolete, and the country is mostly run by the royal council, from and by whom a head councilman is elected upon the death of the previous. The word of the king is always respected but traditionally he has not had much sway in the decisions of the council.

Those who govern Merriwich have historically been concerned almost exclusively with maintaining peace by fostering good relationships with other countries.

Merriwich has become involved in only a handful of wars in its 1600-some-odd years of existence.
