CoS Session 19: This Means War
General Summary
11/1/874
- It’s been a few months since Valdemar was defeated and the Court of the Undying fell apart
- Roland’s been out in rural Gameth tying up loose ends, but he still hasn't found his brother Arthur
- Fallworth introduces Nikolaj to the new members of the party, Sebastian the Character and Elan Quinn
- Nikolaj gives them the grand tour of The Thousand Faces, get to know each other
- Sebastian drinks a lot of milk, Elan's a lot more sassy than her half-sister Catriona
- Roland returns to Gameria a couple days later, telling party that he learned Arthur and Argus are fleeing to Pescat
- Fairouz the Undying has moved to Myltev
- Markova the Undying seems to be crystallized for the indefinite future
- He also spent some time settling affairs in Watchtower, it’s become a major transit hub in a unified Hakon/Gameth
- Roland checks with paladin gild, gets promoted to one of its highest levels
- He's starting to think about the future, life after adventuring
- The party hangs out for a while getting to know each
- Sebastian and Elan put on a show at Thousand Faces
- Nikolaj gets some pop rocks, the first sensation he's felt in a while
- The party reminisces about Aldo for a bit, Roland’s intrigued by Elan
- Aldo broke Willard Grimsbane out of a Gamerian prison in a super bungled escape
- The next day they meet with Fallworth Lockmere
- Their first assignment of the new campaign: go investigate a cult in Cosmere!
- It’s right on the Avicenna border, and this cult is threatening to disrupt the peace
- Plenty of people have fled Avicenna fearing anti-magic persecution
- Party makes it to Cosmere
- Avicennan frigates loom near the harbor
- They speak with the local mayor, try to get more info about cult
- Mayor says the group’s very secretive, holds meetings in a different location every time
- They might be worshiping spider deity known as Lolth
- Suggests they go find someone to follow in town
- Party heads to docks, runs into Azrael
- Turns out the shipping town next to a closed border is perfect for a smuggling operation
- Roland and Azrael catch up, Nikolaj asks about Paoli Piedmonte and work with the Handgun
- The Three Fingers was shaken by Court of the Undying's collapse, but someone's still funding the group's operations
- Azrael can’t help them much, recommends tracking guy named Ericcson
- That night, the party follows Ericcson around town
- Elan casts invisibility on Sebastian to let him be discreet
- Ericcson goes to about a third of buildings in town, messaging people with thieves cant
- There’s going to be a meeting at the local bakery at dawn
- Party tells mayor about meeting, guards will be at the ready
- Nikolaj sneaks into cult meeting in bakery basement
- Morrigan’s there, worshipping some kind of goddess named Lolth
- They’re plotting something big, going to bomb the Avicennan ships
- Bombs are in place, attacks’ about to begin
- Morrigan tries to monologue/attack Nikolaj, but he escapes
- Nikolaj runs to Roland, fills him in on cult activity
- Roland, Elan, Sebastian go to bakery, Nikolaj goes to warn mayor
- Mayor’s guards are starting to arrest cultists
- Bakery explodes, Morrigan appears in lich form with thorns and ivy
- Boss Battle: Morrigan the Undying
- Elan does a lot of psychic damage to Morrigan, starts to get to her
- But Morrigan strikes back with a wave of ivy, KO’s Elan
- Roland and Sebastian both cast some lightning spells on her
- Nikolaj stabs the hell out of her, Roland delivers finishing blow
- Morrigan is shaken and defeated when Fairouz’s spectral form appears
- She comforts Morrigan, taunts party that it’s too late
- Just then, an explosion echoes from the docks
- An Avicennan frigate has been destroyed in the harbor
- Mayor had tried to stop it, he got some longshoremen to retrieve most of the bombs
- He could’ve sworn they got them all, but the frigate was still destroyed
- Sebastian puts on a show, the Mayor laughs for way too long
- A war’s inevitable, and Morrigan and Fairouz vanish
- Roland sends note to the Avicennan garrison, trying to explain the situation
- The guards take it, though Gen. Boua's been itching for war
- It’s time to leave, Nikolaj steals ancient fang from abandoned herbalist shop
